Nancy was born in Forest Hills, New York. At 5, she moved to CT with parents Gloria and Alan Rothmayer and younger sister. She was raised in New Canaan and graduated from NCHS, class of '66. A semester was spent at Bethany College in Wheeling, WV; an associate degree was earned from Centenary College for Women, Hackettstown, NJ, with a major in Theater Arts. She was particularly proud to have followed in the footsteps of thespians by attending a summer program at Neighborhood Playhouse on E. 54th St., NYC. Nancy had a brief career as a professional actress. Traveling with dinner theatre troupes she used the stage name: Nanda Thayer. (Thereafter she went by the name Nanda.) At age 20 while performing in South Carolina, she met Thompson “Tom” Reed. Besotted, Nancy “gave up the stage” to relocate to Columbia. In 1973, identical twins Kenneth Alan and Jason Christian Reed were born. Marriage with Tom ended 2 years later. For a short time Nancy worked in branch banking, and then at Merrill Lynch. In 1989, she met and married David S. Jackson. The two lived in GA, WI, AR, and Satellite Beach, FL. In nearby Melbourne she found fulfillment in treating psychology patients with hypnosis, but found the financial rewards unsustainable. In 1996 Nancy and David's marriage ended. Nancy returned to Georgia. Sarasota followed. She moved in with her mother, with winters in her mother’s FL condo and the balance of the year in her mother’s McLean, VA apartment. Nancy’s parents predeceased her. Sister, brother-in-law, and nephew survive, as do Long Island, NY cousins. Nancy is fondly remembered for a lively wit and intelligence. Nancy achieved all on which she set her mind, sadly excluding fitness and health. Those who saw Nancy’s endeavors at art and acting were awestruck by her talents.

I have several vivid high school memories of Nancy Rothmayer.   They come from attending an advanced biology class taught by Mr. Pelletier.  What I recall of Nancy was her warm and affectionate personality that took pleasure joiking with Mr. Pelletier.  After recalling all the places she lived after New Canaan, marriage and her love of acting, I was surprised she lived for awhile in McLean, Virginia, which is only a short distance from my home in Fairfax Station.  I would have enjoyed attending one of her theatrical productions.

God Bless Her Memory, Doug
