Frank was one of the quiet-but-so-helpful-and-enthusiastic ( not to mention one of the few males)  members of the 20th reunion committee. He practically single-handedly ran the Sunday Family Picnic feature of that reunion, and we never could have done it without him. His pickup truck was a workhorse too, and he transported grills from several homes ( including his own) and then manned them, so that we all could eat. I have no idea how all the cleanup got accomplished that day either, but I suspect it was Frank and Dennis Cogswell ( another grillmeister) who saw to it that we were as organized at the end of the day as we were at the beginning.

It was great to see him at our 50th reunion too. By then he had retired from a very high position in the New Canaan Police Department. Always a worker, but always friendly too, he was one of my favorite police officers and he always had a cheery hello for me and my kids when we saw him on patrol. Made it very easy in the days of a-policeman-is-your-friend talks in elementary school for my kids to really believe that it was true. "Officer Frank" was our friend.

In the New Canaan Advertiser Birth announcements in early spring of 1948, there were Frank Basso, Stephen Carrig, Lauren Holt and Elizabeth Pollock all listed in the same column. So sad to have both of the men now deceased. We'll miss them and their many contributions to our collective memory, as well as the many amazing deeds which highlighted their exemplary careers.

Frank Basso was for sure one of my best friends during my High school years.  We played together primarily on the basketball and baseball teams during those times.   I even use to get my hair cut from hiis Father.  In the Summer before our senior year, about 8 of us from NCHS including Frank and I went to Red Auerbach's Basketball camp for 1 week, what a fabulous time!  We played B-ball all week and were coached by most of the Celtics players at that time except Bill Russell.  I'll never forget that experience.

Frank and I had kept in contact thru the years, and I'd try to see him whenever I came back to Connecticut.  Regretfully I wasn't able to make it to the 20th reunion and Frank told me all about it later.  I contacted Frank just prior to the 50th reunion when I got into town.  He wasn't going to go to the Reunion due to Heath reasons.  I tried and tried to convince him to attend the Reunion, and finally got thru to hm and he said he would go to the Friday event.  Needless to say he had a Great time at the Friday event, and he decided to go on Saturday as well.   I was very relieved.  We both had a GREAT tme and Frank even helped someone with starting their car after the event.  That's so Frank.

A couple of days after the reunion I took Frank to Lunch and saw him for the Last Time.  We reminisced about all of the times we had spent together, and he shared about all of his Health problems.   I knew then that this would most likely be the last time I would see Frank.

The 55th Reunion just won't be the same without Frank being there.  I will be there, but it won't be the same.  Frank was a truly fine person, and he is definately missed.  RIP Frank Basso.
