This is way overdue!  I met Les just before the start of 6th grade (1959) at South School.  His family had just moved to Brooks Rd. from the St. Louis area. I lived on Fairty Drive and the Gould's back yard was disagonally in back of ours.  We could cut thru a stone wall to visit back and forth...which we did until my folks moved from New Canaan in 1980.  Where to begin about Les....He was one of the funniest guys I've ever met, which I knew almost from the moment I met him!  Always quick with a joke or a sarcastic line.  We did so many things together.....played neighborhood sports, played guitars, rode bikes, hung out on his folks boat on the Sound, spent time at the Darien CC and the Lake Club, double dated...  We both participated in the New Canaan Y's ski programs...Saturdays going to Birch Hill and Mohawk Mtn. and the Shaker Village trips during Feb. vacation...remember those trips??  Les spent three years with us at NCHS and then went to St. Luke's to finish up.  We remained close during his St. Luke's years and also when we were both away at College..We got together a time or two after we had both left NC if we were visiting our parents at the same time...I was absolutely shocked when I got a call from my Mom (I think it was in early 1998) that Les had passed way from a sudden heart attack while hiking with his family!!  I remember thinking...my God....we are only in our late 40's and he's gone!  Les...you are missed and loved!!  I'd love to hear just one more sarcastic comment from the master!

Les was very funny. Brooks Road also was the next street over from where I lived. We had a lot of neighborhood shenanigans and a lot of kids from nearby streets used to find their way to our back yard because we had a lot of playground equiment. The fact that we were "older" kids didn't stop us from hanging out everywhere we could. We had bikes and rode all over that end of town. Les and his brother John were both very funny indeed and I can well remember the laughter that Bill mentioned in his tribute. He was peppered with freckles too, which added an extra dimension of mirth somehow. A very witty and fun character, who we would all loved to have had being a jokester at this 50th reunion.
