Cape Breton Heritage Award Posted Monday, April 24, 2017 01:32 PM Dear Classmates,
Jim St. Clair, former and fondly remembered NCHS Latin teacher, will be presented the Award of Excellence in Supporting Heritage Conservation by the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia. The award is for his "contributions to built and cultural heritage”. He has lived in his ancestral home in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, for many years. Our classmates, Nancy Harding and Kendra MacKenzie, and Nancy Hutchinson Erdman ‘65, who have remained in touch with him, are sending flowers to be presented to him at the award ceremony on May 12 at the Highland Village in Iona, Cape Breton. They are inviting members of our and other NCHS classes to join in. Former students from six classes have signed on to date. It will be fun to have lots of students from over his teaching years remind him that out of sight is not out of mind.
In addition to the flowers, there will be a contribution in Jim’s name to the Highland Village, an outdoor living history museum dedicated to Nova Scotia’s Gaelic folk-life, culture, and language, located in Iona, Cape Breton. Jim has played a pivotal role in developing the Highland Village for over 38 years, including being the driving force behind having two historic buildings transferred to the site--one on a flatbed truck and the other by truck and barge. Until recently, Jim gave evening candlelight tours of the Village.

If you would like to participate, here's how. Email Nancy at jigfoxhypo@aol.com to tell her how you would like your name to appear on the flowers’ gift card, along with, if you wish, a line or two of personal sentiments or remembrances--in English or Latin, your choice. All names and comments will be typed up and put with the card. Send a check for five dollars made out to Kendra MacKenzie to Kendra at 26 Stonebridge Circle, Newcastle, ME 04553. If you care to add something extra for the Highland Village gift in Jim’s name, that would be most welcome.
Sincerely,
Greg Morgan
