Carlton Thomas obituary, Urbana, OH

URBANA – Carlton Thomas, 75 of Urbana, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 in Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital.

Carlton was born on Nov. 28, 1949 in Noblesville, Indiana, to the late Carl B. and Bessie Lee (Turner) Thomas.

Carlton dedicated 33 years of his career to Cooper Industry and 8 years at Honda. He also proudly served in the military for 28.1 years, committing his life to the defense and service of his country.

A devoted member of the Forest Valley Church, Carlton also took part in numerous organizations, including the VFW, American Legion, Senior Center, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). His commitment to service extended well beyond his time in the military, as he worked to support and connect with others in his community.

Outside of his work and service, Carlton was a man of many interests. He found peace and joy in nature, enjoying activities like camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was also an avid participant in chair volleyball and pickleball and had a love for sports of all kinds. Carlton's energy, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship were infectious, and he brought a sense of fun and camaraderie to every activity he engaged in.

Carlton's heart was as big as his interests. He never knew a stranger and had a unique ability to connect with others, making lasting friendships wherever he went. His kindness, generosity, and warm presence touched everyone he met.

Carlton is survived by his loving wife, Jerene Thomas; daughters, Christina L. Thomas, Carrie (Isaac Gradillas) Thomas; step-daughters, Rachel A. Adams, Lisa Sullivan; step-son, Richard G. Sullivan; brother, William Thomas; granddaughter, Autumn M. (Andy) Ortman; step-grandchildren, Brittany M. Schneider, Delaney A. (Shelden) Vail, Harley Jo Schneider, Dalylah F. Sullivan, Braxton M. Sullivan; aunt, Nina Turner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Carlton is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Valerie A. Duncan and Carla Bernhisel and uncle, Jim Turner.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 in VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025 in the funeral home with Pastor Del Wallace officiating.

Burial will follow in Kingscreek Cemetery.
