It's been a long journey with many steps, but there's still much to do. Presently working as an entertainer and have a weekly gig at a coffee shop in Brownsville, El Hueso de Fraile (which translates as the bone of the friar and refers to the shell of the nut of an indigenous tree which, when dried and bundled together make a nice rhythm instrument). I'm into my 11th year there.
I've written poetry for thirty odd years and have been published Boundless, the anthology of the Valley International Poetry Festival most recently. I keep a Facebook page called "Stan Raines' Doggerel for Everyday Life" and have printed up a couple of chapbooks.
Kathy, mi esposa and the love of my life, retired from teaching in 2017 She had moved to a high school position after teaching middle schoolers for 25 years. She loved exploring the likes of Willy Loman and Iago with her students and I got the benefit of many discussions on those topics. She and I appeared in a local production of Death of a Salesman a few years back (I played Willy and she his up-state mistress) and she's been fascinated with it since.
We're having the good life, in other words, and enjoying it thoroughly.
