CDR Paul Benvenuto, USCG (Retired) passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 of a blood infection. He was at the University of Florida Hospital for a bone marrow transplant. He developed a blood infection before the operation and died very quickly from it. Paul lived in Melbourne Beach, FL, not far from where he grew up in Satellite Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife Sue of 42 years, daughter Lindsay, son Phillip, and 2 grandsons. He was buried at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
Paul retired from the Coast Guard in 2003 from JIATF South on Key West. He commanded a 210, USCGC Durable, out of St. Petersburg, FL; served at JIATF South (first tour); XO of USCGC Confidence, VTS New York, Operations Officer on a cutter in Key West, District 7 OPCEN; and DWO on the Acushnet and Ute. Paul was captain of the CGA Swim Team his first class year and continued swimming daily until his doctors told him to quit for fear of infection
