School Story
My friend Steve Young and I loosely organized a ten minute sit down strike in March of 1979. I was told by our principal that he thought we should not be allowed to go through graduation. I told him that he wasn’t going to do that. He responded saying,”And why is that?” I held up a super 8 camera saying,”if you did that, we would be forced to turn my footage of one of the teachers slapping a student as he tried to join the protest.” He asked to see the camera and I explained that that would not be happening. He told us if we did not spread that footage to any news agency, we would be allowed to graduate. I had never seen Steve’s mom laugh so hard. Our principal said we could leave and on our way out we reminded him that we will still have the footage if was thinking about changing his mind.
