School Story
Back in 1969 traveling west to New Ulm was completely different from traveling there today in 2023. Most of the Interstate (90/94) was completed until later so getting to New Ulm was via Highway 14 from Winona to New Ulm through all the little towns between Winona and New Ulm. Once you reached New Ulm Center Street was way different as well especially the hill up to the DMLC campus - (remember the wooden sidewalk?). The campus itself was completely different - no library building, no Highland hall, but there was West Hall, Waldheim and perhaps some others that I'm forgetting. The Union was relatively new back in 1969. But we enjoyed what was there. Plus, Martin Luther Academy was on campus as well.
Years later our oldest son, Adam, enrolled there - it was still DMLC (1993) but two years later it became MLC. His dorm was Centennial - when we were there it belonged to the academy girls. Before school let out that year (1993-1994) there was a fire so all his stuff had the smoke smell. But no one was injured thankfullly.
