NEWARK:

A funeral service for Gary Leland Hughes, 65, of Newark, will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St, Newark, OH. Mr. Hughes will be honored by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family request causal dress clothing or camping attire.

Mr. Hughes, a former metal smith for Owens Corning, passed away March 29, 2012 at the Cincinnati V. A. Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 25, 1946 in Newark to the late George Wilder and Hazel Marie (Brumfield) Hughes. Gary is the last remaining member of his immediate family.

Mr. Hughes served our country proudly by serving in the U.S. Air Force; REGAF, as an E-4 Sargent during the Vietnam War from 1966-1970. Gary was the active commander of the American Legion Post #14 in Bainbridge, OH. He was a Brother of the Tomahawk Brotherhood and Brother of the Ivory Mountain. Member of the Greenfield Eagles #1325. He enjoyed life through singing Karaoke and Dancing. Gary loved to play his fiddle for "The Other Band" and was an avid shooter. Gary Also loved life by spending time with his family and grandchildren which he was very much a part of their lives

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Celia (Schoop) Hughes of Newark, whom he married on February 4, 1967; three daughters, Melissa Beth Hughes, Amy A. Hughes and Jennifer Lee "Jenny" Hughes all of Newark; grandchildren, Cody Lee Hughes, Kaitlin Hughes, Kameron Hughes, Sissy Klintworth-Hughes and Krissy Hughes; many special friends, including Adam and Gina Wilson and his favorite companion, Razor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristin Marie Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, the Hughes family requests contributions are made to the American Legion Post 14, 105 W. Third St. Bainbridge, OH 45612
