Bonnie Elaine (Burleson) McLoughlin

Chimacum, WA - Bonnie Elaine (Burleson) McLoughlin passed away on August 19, 2021, at her home in Chimacum, Washington with her husband, Brian, holding her hand. She was born on February 27, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late H. Catherine (McMillan) and Norris M.Burleson M.D.

Bonnie and her family moved to Newark, Ohio in 1952, when her father began his practice of General Surgery. Bonnie graduated from Newark High School in the Class of 1965. She was active in school clubs, a cheerleader for two years, the Homecoming Queen and the Prom Queen.

Bonnie attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. She enjoyed her career as a Flight Attendant with World Airways from 1970 to 1975. Based in Japan, she flew to many countries in Asia and the Middle East. In 1977, she moved to Thailand where she managed the completion of the construction of a Thai junk sailboat that she inherited from a friend. In 1978, she and a crew of four sailed the sailboat from Thailand to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, then to Port Townsend, Washington.

Bonnie married her husband, Brian R. McLoughlin, on January 7, 1981.

Bonnie and Brian created and operated Greengenes Landscaping Company in Irondale, Washington from 1982 to 1989. She also used her creative talents as a silversmith and jewelry maker during that period. In 1992, she and Brian moved to Bend, Oregon to help start and manage a Peruvian horse ranch for two years.

Bonnie was an avid reader, movie and music lover, gardener, and lover of dogs and horses. She and Brian enjoyed caring for and riding their Peruvian Paso horses. They managed the regional show of the Northwest Peruvian Horse Club for thirty years.

Bonnie enjoyed taking her dog and horse to area nursing homes to entertain the residents. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for providing home health care. A kind and caring person, she loved helping individuals who needed assistance with daily living.

A telling philosophy that guided her life is from her high school yearbook: We judge ourselves by what we can do...others judge us by what we have done.
