Sharon Kay Hickman

Sharon Kay Hickman, 76, of Newark, Ohio, was led home by our Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Sharon was surrounded by her family at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Sharon was born April 3, 1947 in Newark, Ohio, daughter of the late Alva and Marjorie Lowery. 

Sharon was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, past Matron of Wroena Chapter #597 and Deputy Grand Matron of District 11 & 12 in 2019 and 2020. She worked most of her life including several years at the Indian Mound Eye Clinic. She retired from The Newark Air Force Base on 11/11/2011 with over 25 years of service. Sharon was a 1965 Graduate of Newark High School and still kept in touch with classmates often meeting for luncheons. She enjoyed spending countless hours with her main squeeze Charlie who often took her traveling to places of interest, often out of state. Sharon followed our Lord and was a lifetime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She enjoyed monthly trips to Columbus with Patty Abel, her childhood friend of 70 years. Sharon would always share a smile with anyone she met and was known by all who knew her as sweet and caring. Amidst her busy schedule she would always find time to enjoy meeting with friends for a meal or gathering. 

Sharon is survived by Fiancée, Charlie Mays; two daughters: Michelle (Loren) Knowlton and Jennifer (Judson Gutliph) Morgan; grandchildren: Hayley (Josh Gullett) Morgan, Shelby (Dustin) Weaver, Taylor (Angel) Knowlton, Cody (Cheyenne) Morgan and Cameron Knowlton; step-grandchildren: Aurora Gutliph and Abby (Joey Campbell) Hayes; great-grandchildren: Colton Morgan, Cohen Morgan, Charlotte Morgan and Carter Knowlton; step-great-grandchildren, Alexander Hornberger and Peyton Gutliph; sister-in law, Connie (Gene) Martin; several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Richard James Hickman; sister, Juanita Veatch; brother, Larry Lowery; and sister-in-law, Kathy Lowery 

Eastern Star service will begin at 11am, immediately followed by the funeral service on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark with Pastor Loren Knowlton officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home.
