Obituary information for James Karl "Jim" Snyder

A memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of James “Jim” Karl Snyder, age 76, of Heath will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Second Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Main Street, Newark, with Pastor Todd Tracy, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veteran Alliance.

 

Jim passed away March 22, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born September 14, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Benjamin and Juanita (Hoch) Snyder. 

 

Jim joined Second Presbyterian Church at the age of 12 with his family. He developed his gentle and kind care for people as he was surrounded by the support of his family and the elders of the church. He was a 1965 Newark High School graduate. Jim joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968-69, following his service in Vietnam he married Rebecca Francis on May 18, 1969 at Second Presbyterian Church and then returned to the Army to serve our Country until 1970. Jim was a dedicated learner and earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Kent State University. 

 

He was an elder and deacon of Second Presbyterian as well as a 50 years choir member as a tenor.

 

A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Jim supported his family by his leadership and partnerships in Plaza Hardware, Quality Cleaners and Park Lanes Bowling of Heath. His commitment to others was also seen in his membership since 1974 in the Moundbuilders Kiwanis Club. At the local level he was past president and treasurer. Jim also served as the District Treasurer and received the Hixon Award. 

 

Jim's integrity, which served as the cornerstone of his character, will continue to resonate through the legacy he leaves behind, impacting his family, church and community.

 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Rebecca “Becky” Snyder; a daughter, Allison (Matt) Widdowson; two grandsons, Ben and Lucas; one brother, David (Sally) Snyder; two sisters, Susan (John) Owen and Jayne (Jim) Riley; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Snyder (1974).
