I just so happen to be at the VFW in Newaygo a few weeks ago with my Dad, and we sat across from Carl's Dad. We talked a bit about Carl and at that time, I thought Carl had passed away (was not real sure) but his Dad never let on that he was gone. He talked about Carl like he was alive and well. He told me about Carl being a good basketball player but Carl didn't think he was very good, and how he didn't care for college but was very successful. It is nice to see people to talk about the past. Carl's Dad is as tall as I remember Carl being!Paula Hanlon (Veneklase)
At the reuion a few of us were talking about who was our rival in our day as Grant is now. I remembered White Cloud being ours, and the game against them where we won and the fans poured out onto the floor with Carl the hero of the game on their shoulders. We spoiled White Cloud's perfect season. It was a classic game which deserved a whole page in the yearbook. Carl did not let his accident or his disablity get in the way of being successful even becoming mayor of Newaygo.
