Robert Hoey

Went on to Orange Coast College (AA 1962) then to Cal State Long Beach (BA Psychology 1966) interrupted by 6 months Army Reserve Active Duty Training - Medical Specialist. Wound up working for County of Orange, Social Services 1967-1978. Took about 9 years semi-retired except for Army Reserve and some volunteer work at Red Cross Blood Bank.

Finally went back to work full time as a Unit, Administrative Technician for my Army Reserve unit, Section 1, 6252d US Army Hospital (750 Bed). Santa Ana, which later was reorganized as the Medical section of the 349th General Hospital (Hq, Los Angeles near USC). Eventually retired on pensions from Army, County, and Social Security.

Now pretty much a recluse in my mobile home in Orange. Read a lot, mostly history, science fiction, and keep up with news on the internet. Seldom go out except to library and grocery shopping.

My father was a Marine Corps aviator who was stationed for five years at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, North Carolina (a great place for Boy Scouts) before assignment to El Toro MCAS for his last tour of duty before his retirement. On retiring from the Marines he went back to school at Cal State Long Beach for a teaching credential,and wound up teaching Special Ed. classes at Ball Jr High, Anaheim until his death in 1970.

Only a few memories of Newport Harbor High. I was there only Junior and Senior years. My first two years had been spent at Havelock (North Carolina) High, where I picked up one year of Latin before the teacher retired, then switched to Spanish, which I continued studying at Newport Harbor. My only recollection of extracurricular activities is dancing the jarabe tapatio with Beatrice Roa, whom I recall as very attractive.

My grades from North Carolina were good enough to get me into an early college honors program at Orange Coast College where I got to take one college class each semester of my Senior year at Harbor. I took a Philosophy course one semester, and, I think Sociology the second.

I was semi-proud to graduate 10th in the Class of 1960, because I suspect it would have been lower if my first two years had not been at a smaller school in North Carolina.
