Wow, DBCS days seem like yesterday, cause i certainly can't be this old!!! But time really has flown by.
Well, right after High School I was one of the featured Opera Singers at Busch Gardens In Williamsburg,VA. I had been performing and working there all through High School. I opted to not take my scholarship to Boston Conservatory due to my Mom's illness and stayed close to home to help take care of her and my siblings. When she passed in 1997, I had to put life on hold for awhile. In 1998 I sang and danced in The National Tour of A Chirstmas Carol.
My Father remarried in 1999 and I went to work for Youth for Christ in Geneva Switzerland for 2 1/2 years. I got the wonderful opportunity to see the world. I taught ballroom dance, coached basketball, organized soup kitchens, and partnered students with retirement homes all within the three schools in the Lake Geneva area near the south east border of France. I also helped in organizing service projects to Kiskunmaja, Hungary, building homes for refugees in old Soviet Army Barracks.
I returned to the US in 2001 (2 weeks before 9-11) and moved to NYC in 2002 working as a retail manager. Working my way up in the company I am now a Regional Training Manager in New Jersey. I returned to school in 2006 and Graduated in 2008 with a Degree In Occupational Studies from The Swedish Institute of Health Sciences in Manhattan NY. I recently took my New York State board exam, and am now a Licensed Massage Therapist with my own travelling practice. I married the love of my life on 9-9-09, and we still live in the New York City area.
Hmmm. Well There are a million stories in could think of.
Of course the Mrs. J "Hairy eyeball".
The year when my Mom got the USA Men's Volleyball team to use our school Gym and I got to watch them practice up close and personal. My senior year when I was selected to be the lead in the school play (yeah, the play that never happened), and when I finally won offesive mvp for volleyball.
The senior trip walking around Boston in the snow in my sandals, meeting John Lennon, My "buttons and bootsie" friends... and just realizing it was ok to be myself. I was always the butt of alot of jokes, but i think that made me stronger as a person.
The encouraging thing is that the friends i still keep in contact with from DBCS have all grown into genuine believers in Christ. People who are not afraid to stand up for what they truly believe, not what they were taught about God, but what they have allowed God to display to them personally. DBCS was a great place to grow up, learn what you want and what you don't want out of life, the memories are mostly sweet, and i look forward to reconnecting with any of you who want to.
