Bruce Hoffer

Bruce Hoffer, 69, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following a recurrence of mantle cell lymphoma.

Bruce was born on November 26, 1946 in Newton to Leonard and Lois (Adams) Hoffer.

Bruce attended school in Newton, graduating with the class of 1964. He married his high school sweetheart Carol (Voth) on October 15, 1966. Bruce was Manager of Facilities Planning at Cessna Aircraft and retired in December, 2012 after 31 years. After retirement, he continued to enjoy many of the friendships he made at Cessna.

Bruce was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship for many years. His dedication to scripture study and love for God’s word was an inspiration to those who knew him.

A highlight of the past ten summers was working with foster children at Royal Family Kid’s Camp. He was a man of many talents and used his woodworking skills to make projects for the children. He cared deeply about these children and was committed to make a difference in their lives. Bruce’s volunteer work at His Helping Hands also gave him great satisfaction. He enthusiastically served as the “Hands and feet of Jesus” helping to provide for the needs of those less fortunate.

Bruce found great joy in investing time by listening to and guiding his family. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events and made many memories in the company of his family by the pond and dock of his and Carol’s rural home. Meticulous in his handiwork, he found great satisfaction in his own home construction and helping his family with their home projects large and small. Bruce doted on his family to friends and co-workers often and with passion.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kevin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol. Daughter Lisa (Mike) Valdez of Newton; son Jason of Wichita; grandchildren Cristian, Hailey, Cailen, Cade, & Creighton Valdez; Sky Hoffer. Brother, Gary (Katherine) Hoffer of Alameda, California. Sisters-in-law Vicki Hoffer of Marion; Joyce (Fred) Stuart of Hesston; Vera (Jewel) Davis of Wichita, four nieces and two nephews and his four legged shadow, Lily, his dachshund.

Bruce was an inspiration to many people with his positive attitude and willingness to help others. He loved the Lord and didn’t hesitate to share God’s love with others. In spite of recent health problems, he persevered and finished well the path set before him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday (February 11, 2016) at the Central Christian Church, 2900 N. Rock Road, Wichita. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday between 1:00pm and 8:00pm, where the family will receive friends between 6pm and 7:30pm.

A memorial has been established with His Helping Hands of the Central Christian Church and the Royal Family Kid’s Camp of Pathway Church in Wichita, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
