Richard Goldsmith

Richard Alan Goldsmith, 59, died Oct. 29, 2003 at his home in Lewisburg, Tennessee. 

He was born Feb 3, 1944 in Emporia to Richard Albert and Marjorie (Briggs) Goldsmith, long-time residents of Newton.  His mother preceded him in death.

Goldsmith graduated from Newton High School and held several college degrees, including a bachelor of arts from Wichita State University; a bachelor of science in meteorology and a bachelor of science in computer science from Texas A&M, College Station, Texas; and a master's degree in computer science from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Ill.

He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force for 13 years.  He worked many years as a computer programmer/analyst for Peabody Holding Co, St Louis, Mo. and most recently in the same capacity for Atlantic Search Group and Pfizer Chemical Co.  He was a teacher at Columbia State College, a member and instructor of Marshall County Computer Club and an active member of Church Street Church of Christ in Lewisburg, Tenn.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Jane Embry Goldsmith of Lewisburg, daughter Dr. Denise and husband Michael Werner of Lewisburg, a son Brian and wife Vicki Goldsmith of Stanford, Calif; his father, Richard Albert and wife Phyllis Goldsmith of Green alley, Ariz; a sister JoAnne and husband Ron Miller of Green Valley, Ariz, a brother Jim Goldsmith of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
