Don Winterhalter

Tribute

Donald Paul Winterhalter, 73, beloved husband of Nancy (Thibeault) Winterhalter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, in the comfort of his own home in Springfield, with his wife, Nancy at his side. Don was born on September 25, 1946, in Waltham, MA, he was a loving son of Paul and Olive (Clarke) Winterhalter. He was raised and educated in Newton, MA and was a graduate of Newton High School. Don served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant with the 82ND Airborne Division. He later attended and graduated from Wentworth, Institute with an AS in Architectural Engineering. During his career, Don was a Fire Safety Engineer with Royal Insurance and later an Insurance Adjuster with Bank of America, both in Charlotte, NC.  In retirement, Don was active in a number of programs helping veterans.  In addition, Don spent many happy hours remodeling his homes and enjoyed travel, especially to his favorite destination, Bermuda. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy of Springfield; his brother Arthur Winterhalter and his wife Judy of Marco Island, FL; and nephews, David Winterhalter and his wife Coni of Framingham, MA, Eric Winterhalter and his wife Kimberly of Tiburon, CA, 4 grand nieces and nephews,  Julia, Olivia, Alec and Samantha,  stepchildren Cameron Trenor and his wife Adriana of West Roxbury, MA, Halle Chizmadia and her husband Steve of Peekskill, NY and 4 step grandchildren Owen, Katherine, Andrew and Jacob; and Nancy’s 7 siblings and their families. A committal service with military honors will be held for Don at a later date at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. There are no calling hours.
