Not sure if she went by "Mrs." or "Miss" (remember, before political correctness). If it wasn't for her English class I never would have made it through college. I felt my preparedness was on par with the college-prep-type-students. Anyone remember his/her report topic for her class? Mine was "Circadian Rythms"

She was legendary! I remember trepidation regarding the Senior English class starting as a Sophomore because of the infamous "paper". In fact - and I may be wrong - I believe she taught my older sisters (14 years earlier). I don't recall my paper topic, nor my grade. Perhaps that's why I went into engineering.....

It was Miss Jenkins. She was never married. I do remember her fondly. My parents were not a bit pleased with my grade in her English class (it was somewhere in the D range)....that semester we were working on the mechanics of the English language...nouns, adverbs, predicate something or others....you know what I mean. Anyway, she informed my parents they should accept and be okay with my grade because I have always sought help, I am trying very hard......and I quote, "it is just that she doesn't get it", "however, she did very well first semester, when we read". Saved me a grounding that is for SURE

Miss Jenkins was fantastic...no one did the witches of Macbeth like her! Her picture in our yearbook is exactly as I remember her in class...Mr Saltz was memorable as well...he always let you in his world thru algebra and physics...

Miss Jenkins was an inspiration to me because of her passion and her drive for excellence. I remember the perfectly quaffed and slightly bluish hair, and the prim and always tidy appearance, and the impeccable, almost erudite manners. Remember her exemplary handwriting? One can learn a lot about others from studying handwriting samples, and I was always impressed by how Miss Jenkins' handwriting was so consistent and role-model correct.

She reminded me of two other influential women in my life, both of whom were also unmarried and drawn to the same life: patiently but firmly guiding young people in the ways of being proper. I am referring to Miss Washburn, who taught me how to diagram sentences which I still love to do, and Miss Eggleston who opened my eyes to the joys of great literature and poetry. All three women were English teachers, but to me they seemed more like Matriarchs of Culture.

As for Miss Jenkins, my senior theme apparently tested the limits of both her patience and her firmness. I wrote about the creation vs evolution debate. To say that I got carried away would be putting it mildly. She said it was acceptable in style, grammar, and mechanics, but too long by half. So, she took points off for exceeding the requirement!

Miss Jenkins, this long post is my tribute to you! I still say too much, but at least I am aware of it now.
