Has 30 years flown, or what? There are times when high school seems like yesterday, but times when drinking keg beer at a party in a corn field seems part of a different life! Growing up in Norfolk, with its family values and caring community, gave me stable roots to grow and confident wings to fly onto life's opportunities.
As for opportunities, I have truly been blessed!! After graduation I continued to work at Lutheran Hospital until marriage in 1983, relocating to Colorado and goofing off for a couple of years. When it dawned on me that I wasn't interested in being a bank teller or home health aid, I became serious about education and moved to Omaha and graduated from UNO in 1989. Working as a HR Director in an Omaha manufacturing environment reconfirmed my need for additional education. Relocating to Arkansas to be closer to parents (Larry & Sharon who live in Bella Vista), allowed me to graduate from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1994--the year after eldest son, Spencer, arrived. After a short stint in the employment law division of the world's largest retailer, I ventured into private practice and second son, Mitchell, was born and joined the practice at 2 weeks (how wonderful when you can hide a jumpy seat under the desk). After 15 years focusing in Elder Law and five years of mediation in civil, domestic and juvenile cases, I can honestly say that I still love what I do for a living.
Then in 2004, just when I thought my future was rolling in the right direction, I found myself single again. But God has a way of opening doors and my sons rounded up new (well, recycled) husband (7/1/2006) and love of my life, Mike. Testing the bounds of "until death do us part", Mike had a near fatal accident 1/9/09 and its been a long rehab road, but what abundant blessings we have received and realignment of priorities on the ONE Who is all important. We never take life for granted and enjoy active involvement with our church family and outreach programs, living on the lake in a beautiful area, and being close to parents, brother Steve, NHS 1984, his wife and sons, and Mike's grandchildren. Free time allows enjoyment of the area's ample recreation options like camping, fishing, hiking, and canoeing.
Writing all this down reminds me what a wonderful adventure the past 30 years have been, hope your's have been terrific, too! Here's to the class of 1980!
