The former Castaways is now - 916 Riverside, located at 916 County Rte 37 in Central Square, NY - in case anyone did not know and may be interested in attending the Cicero 1970's class reunion on July 10, 2026.

I had a discussion with the Coodinator of the Cicero 70s Reunion about maybe having a joint reunion.

He was adamant about not including NS at those gatherings. Apparently when the two schools merged and became CNS all the Cicero memorabilia concerning athletics and extracurricular awards disappeared and only NS trophies and such are present in the current school. I do not know that as a fact but would be very surprised if all the things from Cicero and the 13 years it existed is gone. Hopefully someone can verify that? 
If it is true, I can sympathize with all the alumni from Cicero. It should be corrected.
 

If it is in fact true, then perhaps it should be resurrected!

The two schools were the high schools of the North Syracuse School District. I assume it is now the Cicero North Syracuse District?

Looking for any relative comments on this from people in the know.

I had two kids go to CNS and really never looked at any trophy cases.

If anyone knows more about this, please weigh in on this forum.

Hi John, if that is the case that is pretty bad! The next time I drive by my  old high school , an if it is open I will  check out the  trophy cases. Not that MY name would be on any of them ,  all should be displayed. Thanks John for all your work you do to keep this site going .  Nelsie

John, that is correct.  From 2006 to 2014 I spent alot of time at CNS High School because my kids were in Field Band, Theatre, Dance, etc.  I was a parent helper in their activities and was in the school very frequently.  I also noticed back then that there was no memorobilia of Cicero High School in the showcases, which I had looked for to show my children.  It was sad to see this because it was like we were just forgotten about.

Reunions aren't typically for relishing trophies, but rather for sharing another portion, although a relatively small bit, of our lives with those that were a formative part of who we all are today.  Grudges over trophies at our age, when lives are slipping away!?  Oh my, how ridiculous!

I had heard this quite awhile back. Maybe the memorbila is stored away in the school some where.

The district still goes by North Syracuse School District, that hasn't changed.

I attended the Cicero 70's class reunion in July I only saw two classmates from our class  Tom Francis

& Brian Johnson. Most of the other students were 1974 & 1975.

Sam,  I agree with you 100%.  At this point in my life, I don't care for any trophies.  I spent most of my grade school and junior high years with the Cicero people but switched to NS so that I could continue to play for my (NS) soccer coach.  I missed my Cicero friends and could care less about any accolades or trophies.

  I've lost count of the number of times I've misplaced and subsequently found something, but initially assumed that someone else had been responsible for the item being lost.  In this regard, I tend to align with Donna's suggestion that this is not likely the result of some NS graduates' nefarious actions, but rather some careless and forgotten misplacement.  Regardless, grudingly outing a whole group due to items missing as the result of some admittedly unknown cause is not what we should be about.  As a NS graduate, I recall athletically competing against Cicero, but so many of its' students were friends who I still carry in my heart as brothers & sisters.  It's saddening to witness such animosity over such apparently presumptive grounds.  Today's USA is too easily prone to hate!  Perhaps finding some of this missing memorabilia could be a topic for next year's 70's reunion, with the NS Schmo of 70 gang as part of the campaign ....

Hi all, I have an idea. As it sounds like  old " trophies " of our school's history are not important  any more so why not get rid of ALL  the trophy cases in my old Cicero High school /the  new CNS High School . Now with all that open cabinet space  we could maybe have the high school  art classes  make up some posters to display there. One poster might be lets get rid of Columbus  Day  or another might  Abolish Thanksgiving so we would not have to think  about  our history. We could also try and start a movement to abolish the" Christmas " holiday. By the looks of some of the kids grades  they could use an extra week in the class room. We could just  have one day off for New Years . I would hope no one would blast off and fire works  then as it might remind and offend some people of that holiday in early July . Your thoughts . Jim

My post about the trophies hit a nerve and some reaction!

Just back from a week long vacation and blackout and love everyone's opinion.

i agree with everyone and do think it might be up to our Class of 1970 to correct any slight of Cicero accomplishments! We are the ground zero for Cicero!

As an NS grad of 1970, I have often considered myself as a Cicero booster due to the friendships we all shared! Rivals but in the best way possible and friends forever! I remember cheering for Cicero teams throughout the 70s as much as the NS teams!

Hi everyone,

I think there were renovations back when the 2 high schools merged. It would be nice if there were show cases of both high schools. As I said maybe the trophies are stored away at the school. It seems like the district office might/should know where they are. I wasn't a participant of any of the activites that won these trophies but somewhat of a history buff & these trophies are history of the Cicero High School 13 yrs. worth. It is sad the  schools history isn't being displayed. Maybe the trophies can't be located but someone that is very creative or artistic could create a collage or painting something that illustrates Cicero High's competition awards/trophies.  
Since John brought up this matter, I was wondering where the trophies of North Syracuse High School are ? Are they in a show case at CNSH ? Were they left behind at the (now)  North Syracuse Junior High? 

It's been nice participating in this conversation !

From what I understand there are old NS trophies and awards in the current CNS. There are no Cicero awards.

We need a sleuth to investigate!

I haven't checked them all, but Mr. Nels' earlier referenced url, relating to 35 years of CNS sports dominance, highlights many athletes, including Lenny Brutcher. Check out his picture's nostalgic background. 😎

Hi, I called  Syracuse news channel 9  " Your Stories" . The reporters loved the idea  as I described it to them and they said   they will look into it. They agreed the history of the old school  should not be passed by. Lets see what they will come up with.

If you still live in the Syracuse area please call the Channel 9 news as Jim did and lobby for a story about the lack of Cicero trophies, etc.

Maybe someone could also reach out to the current administration at the school and see if they know anything.

Missing 13 years of history is not good!
