After graduating the U of I in 1981, I landed a job at the Chicago Tribune. I worked there for 27 years through 2008. I truly had some thrills of a lifetime. My first pro beat was the '85 Bears at the age of 26. Talk about good timing. I also assisted in covering the Michael Jordan Bulls during the playoffs of their six titles. In 1997, I became the Trib's golf writer. My first tournament was Tiger Woods' win in the Masters. I covered all of his major titles. Good timing again.
Since leaving the Trib in 2008, I have embarked on the life of a freelance writer, contributing to many publications including Crain's Chicago Business and USA Today. I also teach journalism at Northwestern and DePaul.
My wife is Ilene Goldstein, class of '78. Her firm, Katz, Goldstein & Warren, is one of the best in the field of family law.
Very proud of our boys as they are starting to make their way.
So yeah, life's been good. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
