After graguation, I attended Eastern Oregon College and in 1971 recieved a BS degree in Education. I taught one year at the Hermiston Middle School and in 1972 took a teaching position at Pilot Rock. Where I was the Science Department for thirty years, retiring in 2002. I did various types of coaching during this time as well as serving as the Director of Athletics for the my last 12 years in addition to being a full time teacher.
After retiring from the education game, I took up woodworking as a hobby and my children, wife Lanor, and 5 grandkids keep me very busy with their projects. If it can be made out of wood, Papa Jim will make it.
I have still not lost my love for the game of baseball and spend my springtime umpiring high school baseball games. This has been very enjoyable and rewarding for me for over 30 years.
During the summer months, I work at Smith Frozen Foods, as a Production Foreman where we process and freeze peas, corn, lima beans and carrots. This plant is owned by former U.S. Senator Gordon Smith who lost his bid for re-election in 2008. I work during the summer to support our habit of traveling. We take at least one cruise or bus tour per year. We are looking forward to our cruisetour to Alaska this September.
The remainder our our time is spent traveling around the State of Oregon visiting our grandkids.
