Juan Castillo

First off I would have graduated with the class of 1968 had I stayed in Nyssa. I moved to Texas half way into my freshman year at Nyssa. I remember quit a few of the names on the Nyssa class of 1967, 68, 69. I graduated in 1968 from Edgewood H.S. in San Antonio, TX. After graduation I joined the U.S. Marines 1968 to 1985. I did a tour of duty in Viet Nam 1969. Then I joined the U.S. Marines Reserve 4th Recon in San Antonio Tx. I have been in Law enforcement for the last 37 years, of which 27 years have been as a Federal Officer. I am looking to Retire in one or two years.

I started school in Nyssa Elem. at the 3rd grade to 6th grade. Then Jr. High school 7th and 8th. I then started my freshman year in Nyssa H.S. however moved back to Corpus Christi TX. In CCTX. I attended the other half of my freshman year and then half of my sophomore.
Then we moved to San Antonio where I did the other half of my sophomore year and all of my Junior and Senior years graduating in 1968.
I played football in Jr. Hi. 7th & 8th as well as my freshaman year with the Nyssa Bulldogs.
my closest friends were Frank(Frankie) Grijlava and David Gallegos. I visited Frank this past Nov.2008 in Woodburn Oregon. David came to see me while I was in Brownsville TX. back in about 1994 or 1995. I have not heard or seen him since.
As for a favorite or funny story. I guess the freshman inithation by the sophmore class while the Juniors and Seniors used water hose, flower, malases, and cut our hair all different kind of ways. I think they call it HAZING now. It was good clean fun and it made you really feel part of high school.
