Roman and I were friends in Jr. High School and at Oak Park. We had an number of things in common, including the fact that our mothers were both Czech. I last saw him sometime in 1965 or 1966. After that, I sold my parents' home in River Forest and moved to Chicago. He was a very caring person, good friend and we had good times when we got together. He evidently passed away much too young on 12-19-1982. It was good to have known him.
Roman and I 'met' as babies when we lived across the street from each other. Our mothers and grandmothers were friends. My family moved and we saw each other rarely until Jr High. He was always kind and friendly. I saw him last after our 20th Class Reunion. His fight with cancer ended before Christmas. He is missed.
I remember sitting with my neighbor on my deck in St. Charles around 1995 and the conversation drifted into strange names of people we knew. I immediately came up with 'Roman Alexander Ebert (the third)' and my buddy informed me that Roman had died. My friend knew Roman through his families printing company.
We lost contact with each other but I must confess: I loved the guy. He was the only one of my buddies I would let date my younger sister. He was kind and gentle and genuine. They threw away the mold.
