Lowell Malo

Barbara sat in front of me in Ms. Hawkins homeroom.  We were worlds apart in our interests and never saw each other outside of home room but she always had the time to say a few words to me every day.  I was fairly shy (not that anyone who has known me for the last 50 years would agree with) and she took the time, on occasions, to embarass me.  I knew later that she was trying to make me less shy.  Perhaps the best time was at graduation.  We were all lined up in alphabetical order when Ms. Hawkins approached Barb and asked her now, that she was graduating, what she was going to do.  Without hesitation, Barb grabbed me by the arm and said "Lowell and I are getting married, we're moving to Hawaii, and are going to open a sex clinic".  I would have been really embarassed if I were not fixed on Ms. Hawkins expression of total and absolute shock.  I still smile at that moment.
