Dexter Garland

Dexter Garland

I Spoke with Dexter's Mom Today, She informed me that Dexter had passed this year. She said Dexter had a great life, He traveled and lived in Southern California for awhile, He accomplished many things and reached his dreams. That was one person whom I truly look forward to see him at the reunion. You see I have know Dexter for a long time, because of him and Rhonda Amey. They made my transition from Los Angeles to Oakland very easy.

I met Dexter at Clawson Elememtary School in the 70's , He was very friendly, energetic, and fun kid to be around. If it wasn't for him I would have not survived sewing class. hahaha . He would buy me a cupcake on cupcake days. Wow... when I was talking with his mom, She told me that she baked the cupcake for the school. I never knew that until this year. I remember when I heard that his brother Roy had passed away, I  didn't fully understand Death at that time, But when I seen him I just hugged him ... No words spoken.

When I started looking for Classmate he was the first person on my list that I searched for, So quite naturally when I found his mom on the internet and called her, I was so excited when she confirmed that she was indeed Dexter Garland Mother. But when she said... Oh Baby ? I'm sorry to tell you but Dexter passed away this year. My heart probably broke into a million pieces, .....Wow, I didn't see that coming . I have to admit I was actually scared to do more searches, because I didn't want to get any more bad news. Dexter will  truly be missed  he was a class act. God Bless you Mr. Dexter Garland.                                   Your Friend,  Tina Bridgett- Hill

I am at a loss for words. I remember Dexter and all his wild outfits. I really enjoyed his great personality and smile. My heart goes out to his mother, she and I use to work together as hair stylist in the eighties. Dexter you will be missed.

I must admit that Point Dexter was the first man that had many talents and gifts before his time. He was a great friend that treated me better then most and he gave me a great understanding about different movements in life.

I will miss him greatly, for which, he helped a class understand the word....FANTASTIC!!!!!

God bless.

We had algebra class together, I would gleefully look forward to seeing what wild outfit he would be wearing that day, and to see what color the streak in his hair would be. I also was proud of the fact that we had such a mod person going to our school. Dexter was an amazing person, & something needs to be said for someone to be that comfortable with himself at that young of an age, it takes most of us many, many years of life to find that level of self-love. Dexter was gifted, talented, real, and had a wonderful heart & spirit, you will be missed Dexter Garland. R.I.P

Dexter was my buddy in high school. Dexter lived down the street from my house and every morning he would pass by my window and yell "Sheila it's 7:30 in the Morning, It's Time to Get up" and my mom would yell back out the window to Dexter and say" Dexter! if you don't stop all that loud noice in the morning". Dexter made my HomeComing Queen Dress and it was Royal Blue and White... he made his own pattern. Dexter was gifted and talented. Although I didn't win... That Dress was a win and it was Fabulous! Dexter had me laughing all the time. He was the life of the party, the life of high school days and he was just full of life and lots of love. I miss you so much Dexter and I will always cherish the fun times we had. I had the opportunity to run into Dexter before he passed away.. and again he was full of life and love.
Rest in Peace my Brother..

I was in Cosmetology class and Dexter asked me to put that burgandy color in the front & back of his hair. So we bleached his color out and added the burgandy color BUT it ended up being PINK and he wasn't even mad. That's why his hair was that color at the Jr. Prom.

I will so miss being able to have a great laugh with you just one more time - the kind where it's so hard it makes your stomach hurt & tears come to your eyes and you can't catch your breathe.

Rest in Peace My Brother Warrior, Love You Always.
