John Lawrence will be one of three alumni recapping the Democratic National Convention on August 27. Some of us remember him as an Obie student performing in the "Department of Agriculture" jug band. He grew his hair longer and graduated in 1970 with a degree in history, then earned his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. Afterwards he lost most of that hair while serving for 38 years as a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives, the last eight as Chief of Staff to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Two more recent alumni, Holly Fechner ’85 and Larry Jacobs ’81, will join John in a Zoom review of the Convention on Tuesday, August 27, from 6 to 7 p.m. Eastern time. Golder has attempted to tarnish a man's reputation because of one statement he made to one person over 50 years ago. I cast my insensitive vote for Golder.

Armena was a wonderful and charming person and classmate.  While I too am sorry to belatedly learn of her passing via this class website, I am happy to read in her on-line obituaries that she enjoyed her career as a piano teacher and her rich family life with husband Ron Suny and their daughters.

So sorry to learn of this.  I knew her through our common job at the Oberlin Inn.  She was a delight.
