It is hard to believe August is just around the corner. I am hearing back from several people and they are looking forward to this reunion as well. I have been visiting with Traci (our Valedictorian) and Dean Harvey. They are interested in having some time at the shooting range in Odessa. It would be $25 each but he will bring the guns and ammunition. Let me know if you are interested. He is thinking Friday morning till early afternoon. I asked about Saturday morning but have not heard back yet.

We are seeing if there is enough interest in an activity on Friday morning at a local gun range. The activity will be a shooting "experience" where everyone will get to learn about and shoot all kinds of guns. The experience will include everything from WWII vintage rifles to modern long range tactical rifles (capable of hits at more than a mile).

The activity will also include some friendly competition and everyone will be able to participate. The guns/targets/ammo will be provided by two of our classmates from 1980. Some of the guns are rare and most people will never get to see one in person and will rarely get a chance to shoot them.

Some of the guns that you will get to experience are:
  • WWII M1 Garand in 30-06 caliber
  • Korean War M1A in 7.62 caliber
  • Modern National Match National Match M1A in 7.62 caliber
  • Modern AR 15 in 5.56 caliber
  • Modern AR 10 in 7.62 caliber
  • Barrett MRAD Long Range Tactical Rifle in 338 Lapua caliber
  • Armalight AR 50 Long Range Rifle in 50 BMG caliber
  • Barrett M107 A1 Semi Auto in 50 BMG caliber
  • Both 12 and 20 gauge shotguns
The event will be well organized and supervised with history lessons/instruction on each type of gun prior to shooting the guns. We will be shooting up to 400 yards.

We will also get to shoot shotguns at clay pigeons and will have some friendly competition with that as well. Shotguns will be available to fit guys as well as gals.

This event will be fun for both men and women! You will not forget your first shot with a long range gun that shoots 50 BMG ammo. It makes a BIG BOOM!!!

Let us know if you are interested so we can plan ahead on supplies. The range fees are $25 per person for the day. Ammo will be provided by the two classmates. If you care to help out with the cost of the ammo, that will be great as well.

I hope we get to see you there.

In Memory of

Carole Rene Haltom

December 31, 1961 - July 23, 2015
Obituary

Carole Rene Haltom was born in Odessa, on December 31, 1961, and passed away in the same city on July 23, 2015. Left to mourn her sweet spirit are her parents, Charles and Carolyn Haltom, son and daughter-in-law Jerred R. and Kelly Crumley of Houston and infant grandson Archer R. Crumley, son and daughter-in-law Cade A. and Sarah Crumley of Houston, and son Collin H. Crumley of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Euzela and Billy Barham, and Ollie and Ray Haltom.

Carole graduated from Odessa High School in 1980, and attended Texas Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Odessa.

She had a busy life for many years caring for three young sons, and her greatest joy was watching them succeed. Most recently, she took pride in her newest grandparent role as "Grammy." She was very active as an Aggie Mom when her eldest son Jerred was mascot corporal in the Corps of Cadets E-2 Outfit at Texas A&M University, and she enjoyed caring for Reveille 7 when they came home for visits.

She was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, loved going to the lake and water skiing, and spending time with friends and family. Her friendliness, funny stories, warm smile and contagious laugh will be missed by all who knew her.

Dean and Traci Harvery have so kindly offered to organize a shooting day.  He sent me this email.

The day at the shooting range is a go. It will take place Friday morning at about 10:00 am until whenever. We will be done in time for the event at the skating rink.

We need to get an accurate head count and the names of those participating so we can make sure we have the supplies and ammo we need. We also need to start getting the liability disclaimers and paper work for the range in order prior top the shooting day. Remember that both ladies and guys are equally capable of shooting well. I hope we have a good turnout!

Please contact Dean Harvey directly if you want to participate. You can email him at deanharvey@1791.com or by calling him at 832-418-7242.

Please let him know as soon as possible so we can work out the details.

My Mom and I were talking about this reunion being "retro". She said "Since y'all are going to be acting like teenagers maybe you need a chaperon". I asked her if she was volunteering. She said "no" :)

I know I am sticking my neck out but honestly I am having so much fun at 53 I don't care. I am being asked to sing in theOdessa's Got Talent Show. I do not believe for a second I have any chance of winning but I thought of another way to help Bowie J H. Whether I sing good or bad...if you would like to make a donation (remember the widow's mite) no donation is too small to get me on that stage. Mail it to Bowie Jr High c/o Tennis Fundraiser 500 West 21st, Odessa, TX 79763 and if you don't believe I will do it...show up smile emoticon Please share this! Whether you went to Bowie or not.,
