Terry "Harpo" Granberry, as we lovingly called him! Loved that boy's afro!!! We became really close after his dad and brother were killed in a car accident, almost one year to the day after my dad had died! Terry was sooooo funny...he never ceased to keep me laughing. Terry was such a good friend and so loving. He would do anything for his friends. It's hard to explain, but we bonded like brother and sister only deeper after the loss of our loved ones. We hung out at school, we hung out on the weekends, and Terry took me to church. I will never forget the heart, soul, and friendship of my beloved Terry Granberry! Love you Harpo!
It's very hard to put into words what Terry meant to me personally. I went to the same church as he and his family did for several years. I adored his family, especially his Dad. Several of us in the youth group were very close...we had so much fun on trips or just hanging out together at Pizza Inn! Part of who I am now was formed from that small group of friends. Then Terry and I grew apart as he started high school and our goals in life changed. Some of you knew the demons he struggled with. But even if we didn't talk all year long, Terry never failed to call me on my birthday year after year. I'll never forget the phone call the day after he died. Shock, sadness, and anger. I sat at his funeral in church that day and in front of me sat his sons. One looked back at me and it was exactly like looking at Terry when he was that age. Terry is the reason I became a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor. Terry, you changed my life when I first met you and you changed my life when you passed. Much love.....
Just remember Terry making us all laugh. I also remember the day he lost his dad and brother. He was never the same after. From my experience with life, anytime you lose someone you love, it changes and builds your character. See you again someday Terry!
