How totally cool.  I watched several of them. The Bag pipes reminded me of our own almamarter.

OK  classmates.  Hear this!  I LOVE reading ALL your responses..even those of you with only one or two.  Thank You!     Of course Dan has been a terrific contributer and I'm amazed at how great he is with his story telling.  Perhaps some of you feel as I do that I have nothing exciting to say...but everything that has been posted is what I want to hear!!!!!

So with that said   Here goes with my not so exciting life.    This week has been one of those feeling blessed weeks.    I'm enjoying the beauty of our world.  A momma deer and her two little ones have been hanging out at the chestnut tree behind the house.  Don't want to think about where the other 5 have gone.  Well momma is lame so maybe she doesn't travel too far.   When I go out they just stand there and look at me  The other day I took the dog out  (on a leash because she likes to chase things).  I started making a clicking noise and the deers ears perked up.  The one little one kept inching his way toward me...sort of prancing.  So cute but I didn't encourage too close because of the dog.   Then the squirrels are running all around the yard digging holes to bury their chestnuts.  The other day one was trying to figure out why he couldn't get into my window.  So that just some of the nature that sometimes I forget to see.

I am also feeling rather somber along with the joy.  Friday my friend and I drove to Flight 93 site.   I understand the world needs the new building and information  but it's perhaps a little commercial?  It did tell the story beautifully. It brought many tears. The actual spot is a bit further down the hill.  It still feels so raw.  Then yesterday  watched American Sniper.   I'm soooo thankful for all of you no matter what position you held with the government.

THANK YOU THANK YOU         Soooo   who's next?

Never roasted chestnuts.  Heck I didn't even know there was a chestnut tree behind me.  My son told me about it last year.  He says it was not there when we lived next door 30 years ago.  He thinks the squirrels planted  it from one his father planted one next door way back then....heck I sure don't remember that

I bought some chestnuts a couple of years ago intending to make chestnut stuffing for a turkey for Thanksgiving.  I asked a friend who is a good cook how to roast the chestnuts.  She said you must cut a small cross on one end before you roast them in the oven because there is moisture there that causes them to pop when heated - just like in the song - "chestnuts roasting on an open fire, etc."  She had roasted them on an open fire once and they were popping all over the room.  It was discouraging enough for me that I never roasted them and made my stuffing without them so I don't remember the recipe.  The chestnuts are still in a jar in my pantry.  Maybe this year?  My grandson, Oliver, would get a kick out of the popping, but we don't have an open fireplace.  We have a soapstone stove.  Maybe outside would work.  Janet

So sad to report that Russell Nebeker passed away last Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. I just read it in the Ogden Standard Examiner this morning. It says he died of natural causes. So sad to loose one of our classmates. Just thought you guys would like to know.

Yes, I was hoping to see Russell at the reunion.  I did get a message on this site about his death and I posted a message "In Memory".  Actually it was a repeat of a message I sent in September of 2012 about a memory of Russell.  I don't know enough about computers to know if Russell's family will read any of our posts, but I suspect some of our classmates will and will also visit during calling hours and/or attend a funeral and pass on our feelings.  Janet

I cannot find an obit for Russell Nebeker in the Ogden, Standard.  There was a happy 45th Anniversity article for a Russell Nebeker in the Standard on October 10, 2015.  Please post if you can find the obit for him.

Thanks and Hello to you all :)

It very sad each time we lose another dear classmate.  In the 6th grade Russell was the only one taller than me and I feared I was going to be really tall.  As it turned out my son likes to tease and ask if i  need a a booster seat.   Isn't it  funny the odd memories we have of our  friends.   I think Russell is having a wonderful reunion with his loved ones.  He surely will be missed here though .

Hi classmates. I would like to tell everyone a little about Russ Nebeker and share some information about his passing. I, along with Arnie Garr, Hal Farr, Parry Willard, Dave Hansen, Ferron Wimmer, and Jerry Davis attended his services. The services were very nice and many nice things were said about Russ. He was well liked in his church and in his neighborhood.  His wife told us Russ suffered from diabetes, liver scirosis, and he had a stroke about two weeks ago but she also mentioned he remained upbeat and positive right to the very end. I will miss Russ. He was always fun to be around and so good natured. I remember going dove hunting with him when we were juniors. His father who was pretty old came along with us and his father mistakenly shot a meadowlark for a dove because of his advanced age. Russ got a big kick out of it and laughed on several occasions later as we rehashed the hunt. But that was Russ. He always could see the humor in most everything.  In his later years he was he was a very accomplished catch and release fly fisherman. I also can,t remember knowing anyone who read as many books as he did. He was very avid about reading. I will stop and end with a joke because Russ liked a good one. Although this one is in remembrance of Russ and May not be good.  Did you hear about the criminals who stole the calendar? They each got six months. I love to read everyone's posts. Keep it up.

Hi everyiody,

I attended Russell Nebeker's memorial services.  It was very nice.  Everyone spoke very highly of him.  I have terrific memories of Russ.  He was a great friend and a lot of fun to be around.  I think everyone that knew him really liked him.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  We will always remember him fondly.

I attended the funeral with Dave Hansen, Dale Thompsen, Parry Willard and Hal Farr. We also saw Feron Wimmer.  It was great to be with those guys.  Terrific friends!

Best wishes to all of you.  We sure have a great class!

Arnie

My favorite memory of Russell was when he caught the winning touchdown to give Mound Fort the championship during our ninth grade year. He was a good friend and a fun person. We will  miss him. It was good to be with Russell's friends during his memorial service.

I've been thinking a lot about Russ Nebeker over the last week.  He was always great fun to be around.  My funnest class at BLHS was with Nebeker in (the young and very attractive) Miss Rebecca Larsen's typing class.  We eagerly went to class each day trying to charm Miss Larsen with our typing skills--I think Russ was one of the stars of the class and always made it fun.

Another Nebeker memory:  in about 1965--after missions--Russ bought a brand new, fire-engine red Pontiac GTO.  I was out with him and a few other guys one night in his new car making passes up and down Washington Blvd, reving up and challenging any other hot cars on the boulevard.  We soon found ourselves out at the Ogden Airport road for midnite drag racing (picture the scene from "American Graffiti").  I'm not a "car guy" so that was the closest I every got to the drag races. I don't remember who had the fastest car, but I still think of Nebeker and his red GTO whenever I see one of those classics on the road.

Thanks for the fun memories Russ.

It was nice to see and visit with the other class at his memorial service.

Dan, thanks for sharing about Mr. Rich. I just read your post and thought it was way cool. I read it to my wife and she also very much enjoyed what you said.  As I drive down 17th street about twice a week I pass Mr. Don Dinsdales old homestead. His house was located about a half a block below the tracks. It has long since been removed but I can't help but remembering him .  I had him for seventh grade home room and for math. I really liked the guy.  He took our class to the state Capitol  on a field trip and I have a picture of mr and Gary Wilson with the Capitol in the background. Mr Dinsdale died of cancer a few years ago. He was living in Morgan at the time of his death. Everyone, keep posting. Thanks again Dan. You are our official good guy encourager.

In 7th grade, you were in Mrs. Bates home room as was Steve Neilson, Susan Stitzer, John Snyder and Janet Harris, etc.  Mrs. Bates was the librarian.  I'm looking at the picture.  Keith Combe was married to Marilyn Rhode.  And Carolyn Watkins was married to Richard Whitney, the older brother of a classmate - Sharon Whitney.  Carolyn and Richard were living in Westchester County, NY, while I was in NYC.  I met them at stake conference one Sunday and was delighted and so we set up our night on the town in Manhattan.  We saw "Man of LaMancha".

I first went to NYC in 1966, fresh out of USU with a BA in English/history/education.  I was a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA).  Remember that?  A Kennedy program.  I went from Logan, Utah to Kennedy Airport in one night.   Arrived at 6 a.m; took a bus into Manhattan because I had heard about wily taxi drivers. From bus terminal, I got a cab to hotel and told the driver exactly how to get there because I had studied a map.  Arrived at hotel at 9 a.m. where the volunteers were to meet at 5 p.m.  The first other volunteer to arrive (at about 11 a.m.) was Jim Berenthal from Brooklyn.  He said "Have you ever been to the Statue of Liberty?"  So we got on the subway and ferry and by 2, I had climbed to the top of the Statue of Liberty.

I was sent to Boston after training as a volunteer.  The second time in NYC, I went for a really good job from 1969 to 1971.  That's when I met Carolyn and Richard.  Now that I'm looking at our 7th grade class, does anyone know anything about Philip Whitehead?  I was crazy about him in junior hight school.

It's 6 AM, and I just got back from taking my sister to the  airport.  She flew out here just in time for her Birthday and a party in her honor and stayed until after mine.  We had a fantastic time for the last three weeks.  We went on a 8 day cruise, which was wonderful, got together with friends and family to celebrate birthday's and life in general. My sister from San Jose and Brother-in-law came for the weekend.  My Brother and sister-in-law met us for a day at Apple Hill in Placerville.   We ended the visit by going to see my daughter in (believe it or not) "White Christmas".  It was the opening weekend of the play.  Yesterday we went to church  and relaxed for the rest of the day.   Now after all the company and running around, it's time to clean the house and get back to the job of living.     Thank you to all who wished me a Happy Birthday, and it was.  Life is good!

Dan, the baseball player you mentioned was Don Drysdale. He played for the L, A. Dodgers,& pitched a no hitter in the 66-67 series.  My wife & I was there to see it. Far cry from John Affleck Park! Yes Don Dinsdale was an assistant coach & later became the Athletic Director .He also taught at Mound Fort before that. My wife & Don's sister Bette were in his class in the 8th grade. He always took delight in bullying Bette. One day he got mad at her, for talking, & he told her to leave the room & go to the Principles office! She started to storm out, then turned around & yelled "Don, I'm telling Mom!" Everyone in class started to laugh, until Don turned & glared at his class. All of a suddenit wasn't so funny anymore. Don was a good man & loved to teach & coach. He suffered with cancer for seversl years before  he passed away. Oh the memories!!!

Janet, now that all my company has gone, I am able to read all of the posts for the month.  How exciting it must have been for you to be able to be right there in the Big Apple all by yourself.  And to think you were thousands of miles from little old Ogden.  What a fabulous experience.  I took the safe path in life and got married just two weeks before our graduation. I didn't go to college for many years and 4 children later,  when I earned an AA degree in business. I got my first full time job after that in 1993.  By the way it was not the easy way to go.  HA! We have all had some very interesting life experiences.  Maybe more of the BLHS class of 62 will be willing to share.

Marilyn Rohde was married to Keith Combe and Keith passed away a few years ago. Marilyn came to the reunion. I don't think she has remarried. She's a very sweet girl. Marilyn had an older brother who was a great football player at BL and later at the university of Utah. He was a starting guard for a couple of years. Some of you sports folks will remember Lee Grosscup the quarterback at Utah. Marilyn' s brother played at the same time as Lee G. I went to the game between Utah and Utah State on Thanksgiviing day to watch Marilyn's brother play. It was at Utah. That would have been around 1955. Just thought some of you sports folks might be interested. If by chance Marilyn reads this, I hope you are doing well and life is good for you. Your friend, Dale T.

When I hosted A FHE-Fun Night just before my sister went home last week I wrote the following story using old song titles.    There are 30 song titles that I took off of a 60's Rock and Roll CD set.  See how many you can find.  They all had fun trying to find them and singing as many as they could remember.  This was OUR music.

60’s Rock and roll

True Love

I was on the road again, on my way to pick up Windy and go to a party.  When I got there, she said “hold on I’m coming”.  She jumped in the car and said “I’ve been under the boardwalk all day.  She’s always late so it’s a good thing, cause if I had a hammer, I might have used it, but instead told her, I’m into something big.  As we were walking in the door we saw Duke of Earl.  Ya know I reminded her he’s the leader of the pack, so I’m wishin and hopin that he will stand by me.  Its five o’clock world so Windy said maybe you should slip him some love potion number 9.  I had some once and it really build me up Buttercup.

The evening was young, and I said Windy, go now!  Actually the twist is that she went to hang out with Mickey’s monkey.  I overheard Duke of Earl say, oh look, it’s the devil with a blue dress on.  I was so happy when he came up to me and said “wild thing, I’m your soul man.  It’s so cool that Cathy’s clown didn’t run into me”.  He handed me a cupcake, smiled and said “sweets for the sweet”.

Just then Johnny Begood came up to me and asked, how about peppermint twist?  Duke looked at me and told me to remember to save the last dance for me.  Johnny Begood smelled like tobacco road.  I started to cry, he said “don’t you want to be hitchin a ride with me? I told him in no uncertain words, it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to.

Now, after rocked around the clock it was 5:00 in the morning, Duke of Earl took me home.  Next month we are going to the chapel and we’re gona get married.
