Oh   yes Joy I sure do remember that.  Janet Lott and I drove to a trailer park some place on  Wall Ave. just as a trailer rolled over onto its top and people crawled out of it.  We were so shocked.  Don't ask me why we were so silly to be driving around.  Then we went up to the school and the hood of  my car blew up and it took the two of us to hold it down.  Then we got smart and went  home   LOL

Earlier comments on this message forum have been on my mind for weeks. You are good people and I'm so glad most of you are Christian--very important. I want to let my voice be heard. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is indeed the Church of Jesus Christ, restored in 1830 through Joseph Smith. We have had prophets of God since the world began. We do today. God hasn't changed. Many have decided religion is "outdated." Well, it is the most important thing on the earth. I just want to shake everybody and shout BELIEVE! (See in the Book of Mormon Mosiah, chapter 4, verse 9.) Well, if you don't want to bother searching for it, I'll write it here:

Believe in God; believe that he is and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

I love that scripture. The Church is the very foundation of my life. I want to proclaim that to all of you, my good, old friends! I will also share 2 Nephi 9:28: O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.

Hurray for General Conference this weekend, Sat. and Sun. 10 am and 2 pm. Hear the words of God from his servants, the leaders of the LDS Church! With love and respect to you, Karen Belliston

Amen Karen, thank you for sharing your comments.  Here in CA conference is at 9 & 1 on Saturday and Sunday.  I am so looking forward to watching ALL of it.  The first session for women and girls was wonderful, and I know the rest of it will be also.  JOY

Aw Dan, don't give up. I read your joke and thought it was hilarious! With a large family and several commitments, I don't get on this message forum too often. I think it's great that several of you have had such interesting conversations. Just know that many of our classmates never use this, and some just don't care to comment very often.

Pete just had his left knee replaced and soon will have the same surgery on his right leg. It takes a lot of time just to work with that--ice packs, physical therapy, and other duties for recuperation. But we both are interested in this BLHS message forum. Keep up your contributions please! Best wishes to you. Karen

Dan, thanks for keeping this going. If you want to know the latest, I'll bore you with it. I reached into my purse this morning and discovered my wallet was missing. That's always an "OH NO" sinking feeling! I searched the car and house--no luck. I had been to Smith's grocery store last night so I called the store (St. George) a few minutes ago (boy, this is breaking news!) and they kindly looked in the safe. IT WAS THERE! Hurray! Moral of the story: ladies (and gentlemen) don't leave your wallet on the counter at the checkout stand.

Have any of you out there done anything dumb lately? Have a great day!

Ok....here's my dumb stuff.   Yes Karen I've done this sort of thing.  I've had to put a Hook on my car keys and am not allowed to shut my car doors untill the keys are hooked to my purse.  Sometimes it's a LONG walk home when everyone else is at work.   I have replaced 3 debit cards thinking I have lost them and as soon as I replace them....there they are...usually on the car floor.  Feel so stupid.

We are having an unusually warm couple of days for this time of year so I figured it was a good time to clean the carpet.   So  I just had to complain on facebook.  The very next day the cat threw up on it and then the dog made a skid mark!  Arggggggg   All that moving furniture and cleaning is too much for an old lady!  I figured that is a good excuse to play on the computer today.  RIGHT?

This time of year is so beautiful.  PA is a nice green world, but now the beautiful reds, oranges and yellows are awesome.

That"s as exciting as my world  gets.   Hope to hear more dumb stuff or even  it's ok if  it's not dumb stuff.

I'm back!  Home again.  I had a wonderful time in IL with my two sisters and 2 of my nephews.  We went, saw, and did many fun things.  One thing that was special was when we went down to Springfield MO.  We met up with our cousin that we haven't seen since we were kids, had a great visit with him and his wife of almost 50 years.  We exchanged family history info, had a delicious dinner and talked for several hours.  The next day before we headed back to IL we went to the world's largest Bass Pro Shop.  It was a marvelous trip, however I had to deal with severe pain in my knees (Pete I will have the surgery in December) and got a kidney infection that I will deal with now that I can go to my own DR.  I had gone to emergance while there and was told that nothing was wrong.  Hmmm? when I got home last night I had 3 messages from the hospital in IL wanting me to call.  They were wrong and wanted me to come in.  NOT!  My Daughter and family picked m up at the airport and took me out to dinner for my birthday.

I was so sorry to hear about Diane's death. I hope her family finds peace in the near future.  I am fearful that we will be getting this sad message more often, now that we are into our seventh decade.  It's part of life.  I know when we were  younger we always thought that day would never come.  But it will; and when our loved ones die, we will always miss them and remember them.  JOY

Oh YES!  I am so sick of hearing all of the political bashing that I made a decision to NOT watch anything on TV until it's all over I might watch something on NETFLIX sometimes.  I have voted and now I am done.  Thanks Dan for the suggestion.  I will look into it. JOY

Dan -

Thanks for the nice note and concern.

Yes, I'm glad I had the knee replaced. The recovery is going amazingly well. After 6 weeks, I'm almost totally back to normal - 90%+. Still a little swelling but that's all. Back to golfing tomorrow. The Dr. says wait until February to ski again - I probably will.

One more to go - likely next year sometime.

I hope you're doing well. What's the latest on moving to Texas - or did you already?

Pete

Love it or hate it, it's time to fall back again.

It happened this Sunday morning at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving will strike your smart clock  to adjust and show an hour "earlier" when you woke up this morning, but you will need to manually change the others.

If you've ever wondered why we turn our clocks back in the fall and forward in the spring in the first place, the answer is surprisingly unclear. Daylight Saving has one of the strangest and most contested histories.

Some say that it became commonplace in the U.S. during World War I, while others say that good old Benjamin Franklin dreamed it up in the 1700s. According to the “Old Farmer Almanac" The Germans were the first to officially adopt the light-extending system in 1915 as a fuel-saving measure during World War I. The British switched one year later, and the United States followed in 1918, when Congress passed the Standard Time Act, which established our time zones. This experiment lasted only until 1920, when the law was repealed due to opposition from dairy farmers (cows don’t pay attention to clocks).  During World War II, Daylight Saving Time was imposed once again (this time year-round) to save fuel. Since then, Daylight Saving Time has been used on and off, with different start and end dates. Currently, Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday of March and ends at 2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November. Why it's continued to the present day is confusing to many researchers, since it doesn't seem to offer any work benefit and, as some have argued, it also hasn’t proven to conserve energy.

In any event, Fall is such a special time of year and there is much to enjoy.

Visit a farmers market. Fall's bounty of fresh fruits and veggies is one of the best offerings of the season. Visit a farmers market and stock up on your favorite seasonal produce. Fresh apples, pumpkins, squash and many other delicacies are a healthy and tasty way to add variety to your autumn menu.

Hit the road. The leaves are changing color and it's a beautiful time of year to enjoy with the family. Take a long drive somewhere that you can see the brilliant shades of autumn on the trees. The gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges are breathtaking. If your kids get bored you can sing songs, play games, roll the windows down and breathe in all that fresh fall air. You don’t have to go too far to find the perfect foliage.

Clean up with fun. If your front and back yards are covered in fall leaves, get the family outside to help rake and gather. But before you get into the serious task of cleaning up, play tag in the leaves or rake them into piles and let the kiddos fall or jump into them. Bring a camera outside – you can’t go wrong with fall colors and laughing kids.

Plant bulbs for next spring. This is another one of those activities I remember doing with my dad as a kid.  People normally like instant gratification, so waiting for spring to see the fruits of of your labor may be tough. I asked everyday when the tulips and daffodils will bloom, until I finally forgot Amanda Logan about them. Then one day in the Spring they popped up and I was so excited, it was the coolest thing.

Be grateful. Fall always seems to be the best time to take time and count our blessings. There’s something about the leaves, the fresh air and things slowing down a bit. The back to school rush is over and Christmas isn’t on the top of our minds just yet. So, it is a time to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy and may take for granted. Take note of the small joys and things that make you happy, and put them in a visible place.  It’s a great reminder of the many blessings we have, and it gives us a healthy perspective of what matters most

Dan, reading your story about teaching English to the young lady, makes me think about my daughter who lives in BC Canada.  She teaches American English to some students.  One is a university student in Korea, and there are a couple are high school students, staying with her and her husband for the next 4 years or more.  There have been others, but those are the most recent.  American English is the most versatile and it is very desirable to learn to speak it our way, including our slang terms.  I was able to listen in on one of the lessons on skype, and the young lady was being taught what it means when we say "I'm good"! to her it meant yes I like it or want to do it, but as  you know when someone asks "Do you want to do -- or have some of something it means no thank you, or I'm good.  It's funny how some little thing like that can be quite confusing to a person who is learning our language.

Dan, thanks for the well wishes.  I enjoy reading your stuff, but don't come on here very often.  To answer an earlier question, I was in Guatemala and El Salvador in 1993 to 1995.

Hi Ruth, thanks for the card.  You find the best ones.

I was at a birthday celebration last January for my cousin who was 96.  A familiar face sat across the room and after telling another cousin that I thought I remembered her he said it was "Gayle Read.  Her mother was my father's cousin.  She didn't remember me but no one from HS ever does.  I was a wall flower in HS but came alive in college.  Late Bloomer they call it. I must have done all right in college because I really enjoyed it and was placed on the Who's Who List for American Colleges and Universities. Pardon me for blowing my own horn.  Gotta do it once in a while.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my family and friends near and far. May we all be truly thankful for all our many blessings be they physical, temporal, spiritual, worldly or eternal. May God continue to bless us each and every day and may we have the goodness to share with those who are in need and lift and build them so that they may do the same. May our love increase to include all of God's children no matter what their circumstance may be. May I also be the first to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!!  JOY Wardleigh

Dan, Please tell Jane that I am sorry about her Mother's passing.  I know it has been difficult for both of you for quite a long time.  You will be blessed for your efforts.

Where in Texas do you plan to relocate?  My son and his family live in El Paso TX.  JOY

Dan,

Know how to type, but how can we compete with you?

Love reading your posts.  My life is pretty hectic at the moment.  my husband had started on a pretty intensive chemo protocol so just looking for some escape from clinic time.

Good luck on your move to Texas, I know it is bittersweet.

Pam

OF COURSE I KNOW HOW TO TYPE.   SLDFK;ELRTOEUREOVFDEROE, SEE!  Besides I had Ms Rosman and that creepy Mr. something or other for typing.  I hated them both, moreover I was not too happy with my mother for making me take it twice.  Even with all that I never did get to be very  speedy.  It's so much faster when it comes right out of our head and right down on the keyboard.  I hated typing those boring (fake letters).

I went to my first pre-op appt. today.  If everything goes as planned I will have the knee replacement (left knee) on the 29th.  Oh man; am I ever nervous about it.  I am a true coward when it comes to being cut all to pieces.  I even had to be put to sleep when I had my wisdom teeth out.  How will I be when I get this done.  I think about you Pete and many of my friends here in CA who  have done it, and they ALL lie and tell me that it's a piece of cake.  I doubt it!  Most people go into re-hab for about a week or so after,  WA; WA; WA,  why are we all starting to fall apart?  JOY

Pam, I will pray for Curt as well. I will put his name on the prayer roll at the temple the next time I go. Good luck. My wife just finished 18 weeks of chemo and I know it is not easy. Good luck Pam.

Pam, I put Curt's name as well as your name on the temple prayer roll. I hope you don't mind. In these kind of situations prayer is always helpful. Of another note.  I attended WSU the same time Curt was on the football team. He was in one of my classes. He seemed like a real nice guy, not arrogant, friendly to everyone, and a good person. It's funny I can still remember that. A football star being a good guy was kinda fun. Tell him good luck and May the Lord watch over you both.

Thanks Dale,

I will tell Curt, he will appreciate it. I dont think you can ever have to many prayers.

He is doing well. New proctocol  of drugs is looking good.

Thanks for your concern.

Dale,

Just scrolled up and read your wife also has gone through chemo.  I will add her to our church prayer list..  It will be the United Methodist Church but  I think covering all the bases is a good thing.

Thank you Pam. My wife's last chemo was in the later part of Sept. and she seems to be doing good. I appreciate your thoughtfulness with the prayers. Good luck with everything.
