Karen Daines Vollbrecht

LAYTON - After a courageous battle with cancer Karen Daines Vollbrecht, age 59, passed away July 27, 2003 in Clearfield, Utah.
Karen was born March 19, 1944 to Edgar and Arvilla Daines in Salt Lake City. She attended Ben Lomond High School and joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation.
While stationed at Patuxent River N.A.S., she met and married Melville William Vollbrecht Jr., who also served in the U.S. Navy.
Karen was an accomplished artist, receiving many awards in various mediums. She was an active member in the Elko Community and owned Desert Gold Gallery.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Laverne Hunt and brother Myron Daines.
She is survived by her children, Catherine McFadden husband David, Layton; Karmel Timmons husband Matthew, Elbert, CO; and M.W. "Bill" Vollbrecht partner Jeff Brown, Carlsbad, CA. Karen also took great joy in her two granddaughters Chelsea Porter and Miranda McFadden.
She is also survived by her siblings, Lavona Leikis, Janeal Lambert, Lois (Odell) Wood, Merlin Daines plus numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Elko, Nevada at the Northeastern Nevada Museum.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a scholarship fund in her name will be accepted.
