OMG I know I was cracking up at the pics you posted on your profile Scot now that is how I remember everyone! you know Marshall a wardrobe malfunction may be doable for some but I doubt those shorts need to be malfunctioning!! ;o) This is going to be fun and hopefully more will post pics. I'm not sure what I have in the way of old pictures but I will do some digging! You know Scot they say your hair has to turn gray or turn lose. You seem to be holding up well from what I see!! You need to bend over so we can see the top of the head! ;o)

Denise Powell (Daniells)

Thanks Scot, your pics on here a soooo great! After seeing them I am going to go out and look through all my old photos and see what I come up with!

09/01/08 11:43 PM #10

David Askins

OK, Denise, where are they? (just kidding)
What I really wanted to message about was to encourage everyone who is willing, to check your profile and make sure that you are open to the public - which is really not PUBLIC - but it will open your profile to visitors from the class of '79. I have visited the '79 website and found that there were many profiles that I could not view, or even send a message to. This isn't MySpace, Facebook, etc., so it's not like every Tom, Dick, and Harry/Tonya, Debra, and Harriet(to be politically correct) will be logging on. I certainly understand people's concern for privacy, and will cast no judgement on your decisions, but, I believe, it would greatly benefit the interaction and success of this joint reunion.

Cricket Baughman (Jester)

ya, so, like, ummmm .... just how DO we go visit the 79 graduates anyhow? Cause I couldn't find the missing link ..... oh no! wait a minute ... I married him! te he! te he!... ok, ok, I'll take my exhusband jokes elsewhere *sighs* ... but please .... someone direct me to the graduates of 79. Please and thank you! :)

Karen Wilson (Loyd)

This is great! I just found out about the site today, and have had a blast just reading the names, not to mention the bios and pics! I agree, David, there were several '79 classmates I couldn't access because they had their profiles blocked -- what a shame!

How does Greenvale Elementary look? Does anyone ever go by there?

09/03/08 01:09 PM #13

Lance Forbes

Thanks for the email pointing me to this site, Cricket!

This is great...sure does make me feel old, though.

Marshall Helsel

Hey Karen. Not to be "Mr. Downer", but Greenvale's an urban dump now. That whole area's gone to the dogs...or should I say, the "dawgs". It's not the same old 7th street we grew up on, thats for sure. I remember the big field just north that we all used to play in for hours every day. Now it's full of Section 8 apts and trash. I hate to see that happen to the area I grew up in, but that's "progress" for you.

Dollina Overton (Wear)

The only person I can make out of the baseball team is David Askins, middle of the back row, at least it looks like him, since he hasn't changed one bit! The others aren't clear enough to really tell. Dollina

09/04/08 12:29 PM #16

Lance Forbes

Marshall, we used to call that big field "snake hill" didn't we?

09/04/08 06:48 PM #17

Marshall Helsel

Yeah, Lance, I think you're right! Wow. Nice memory. Why did we call it that? Hey, remember all the blackberries that grew among the thorn bushes back in there? I remember crawling through all those thorns just to pick a handful of them and getting all cut up. Those were STILL the best blackberries I've ever had, but I sure wouldn't go through all that trouble these days! (ha) Nice to see your bio, Lance, good to see you're doing well.

Cricket - On our home page, just below our Senior class pictorial and the registration request, it should say "Visit the WHHS Class of 1979 website". You should be able to click on that and get there. If not, the URL address is www.whhs79.com .

Karen - I haven't been by there in years, but from what I hear, Marshall is right. My parents moved from there shortly after we graduated. I heard recently that our house on the corner was burned, not to the ground, but the garage door was blown out - I'm thinking - maybe - meth lab?
I emailed Jan, and she suggested trying to get a guest membership. I've tried that, but nothing so far. Think I'll email Jan again and ask her to post a request like mine on their website.

Marshall - Section 8? I thought that was how the crazy guys got out of the military.
I remember catching crawdads and polliwogs when there was water on the dirt road.

Dollina - Good job! And thanks for telling me that I look like a 10-year-old.(sarcasm intended) Bill is in there too, but the rest are from the class of '79 - Bill and I were young puppies in our class.

Marshall - The blackberries that I remember were alongside the creek behind the park. They were so delish! I also remember the first time I came home with stained hands and mouth - my mom went into a panic. My dad actually dug up some of those bushes and planted them in his garden.

Karen Wilson (Loyd)

That's so sad to hear about our neighborhood. I remember catching tadpoles and crawdads in the "pond" at the end of the road -- yes, me!

09/04/08 11:11 PM #21

David Askins

Oh no, not little Karen Wilson! What would the neighbors think!?!

09/05/08 07:23 AM #22

Lance Forbes

David,

You remember that "underground fort" we built near your house? Can't remember if that was me and you, or me and Bill. I remember we spent the night in it once.

Marshal,

You remember that club we formed...."the sons of daniel boone"? As far a why we called it "snake hill", I can't remember. I only remember playing there from the time I was in kindergarten up until they flattened it and built the London Square apts.

On a side note, I know my writing is atrocious. Mrs. Bandy would be ashamed of me....

09/05/08 06:18 PM #23

Marshall Helsel

David- "Section 8" is also how they get sane people out of crazy neighborhoods. My wife (the City Planner) tells me they are rapidly moving away from that philosophy. Only took them 40 years to figure out that building a low income apartment complex near a nice neighborhood just ruins the nice neighborhood. I could have told them that when we were 10 if they'd have asked. (ha-ha) Yeah those were some good blackberries. There were more back in the thickets north of Karen's house. Hey- remember the "dust devils" that used to blow around in the summer on Greenvale Rd by your house when it was a dirt road? We used to run through them and get sand blasted.

Lance- Sons of Daniel Boone? LOL! Uh...no, no, uh...I don't remember that...I think you just made that up! OK, OK, OK...I remember...I just couldn't actually admit that we did that. Hey, Lance, didn't we write a skit in Jr. High together in Criner's drama class where Karen played a rabbit? I remember because she played a really good rabbit.

09/05/08 06:49 PM #24

David Askins

Lance - It was all 3 of us, and I couldn't remember if someone else was involved, too. Spent the night ONCE, because it was just so comfy. We're probably lucky we didn't get buried alive.

Marshall - I remember Karen as a rabbit, paws neatly tucked in front. Don't remember if she said much in that skit, but she did make a weally good wabbit!

09/05/08 07:13 PM #25

Lance Forbes

Marshall, if I remember correctly is was a spoof on Noah and the Ark. You were Noah, Karen a rabbit, Matt Lagan was a gopher (I think), and I was a turtle. Can't remember who else was in that little skit. You remember that play "The Mortician" that you, Matt, and I wrote and performed "on stage" in the cafeteria at the end of 9th grade?
...and yes, the "sons of daniel boone"...whatd'ya expect, we were in maybe the fourth or fifth grade. LOL

David, I was thinking the same thing about being buried alive. I'll tell you what, some of the stuff I did when I was a kid scares the crap outta me now.

09/05/08 10:54 PM #26

Marshall Helsel

Yeah, now I remember, David...she WAS wather wascally!

Lance...I am officially impressed. Your memory is just TOO good! I had forgotten the "Mortician" play. Hey- Matts a big moviestar out there in Hollywood- maybe he'll do a screenplay of it! I want to be played by Richard Gere. (ha!)

Tina Hill (Marshall)

Hey Marshall, all this talk of wabbits made we think about how you used to call me ‘bunny cheeks’ in 9th grade science. Do you remember that? What was the deal about rabbits back then? lol

It’s been fun reading everyone’s posts. I’m looking forward to the reunion. You know we might not have to wait since a bunch of us live in Mustang we could synchronize our Wal-Mart trips and meet in electronics! lol

Hey does anyone have any details on Jimmy Davidson? I sure was shocked to hear of his passing. I have a lot of fond memories of Jimmy. Was anyone in Coach Carter’s Oklahoma History class the time Jimmy put the ‘fig’ leaf in Coach’s chair? I’m probably the only one who remembers that because I was MORITFIED!!!! Hey I was fourteen…. Now, I think it’s hilarious! I’m gonna miss not seeing Jimmy at the reunion.

Keep writing….

David Askins

I've just noticed that we've used up a whole page on this Message Forum.(there is a "Prior Posts" button now) That is more than the '79 website can say, even though they claim a larger percentage of classmates on.(sarcasm intended)

Marshall - a wather wascally wed-headed wabbit!(Karen - have we embarrassed you enough, or should we go on? I have more...)

Lance - We were such daredevils, back then. Do you remember planning to build a raft out of whatever wood we found and some 55 gal. drums that we came across? We were going to float the MIGHTY Canadian River. "Buried alive" or "drowned in the Canadian River" - don't know which would have been more embarrassing!

Tina - So happy to have you join us! Oohhh! - but you moved to MUSTANG! That's enemy territory, you know. I'm not sure if I should be speaking to you. (ha-ha!)

09/07/08 12:33 PM #29

Marshall Helsel

Hey, Tina, nice to hear from you! Yes, well, you know "bunny cheeks" was a term of endearment, right? It really was meant to be a compliment in my own unsophisticated 9th grade attempt at 'coquetish banter' . :-) (Mrs. Bandy would have been so proud of me for using that term.)

I didn't know Jimmy passed away. I'm sorry to hear about that.

David- Wandering wed-headed wascally wabbitts wun wapidly while wescuing weptiles fwum da wivver by the woad!

Marshall - That should be the "icing on the cake", or the "straw that broke the camel's back" - whichever way you prefer to look at it - Karen will never talk to either one of us again. Did you know that there's a picture of that skit in our 1975 9th grade yearbook? Not sure why you were lying on the ground cringing. I guess the animals got the better of Noah that day.

Hey guys, I've talked to a few classmates and it appears to be OK to invite any/all of our teachers and coaches for the Saturday night function of the reunion.(but we need to discuss at next meeting) What we would like to do is offer their meal and entry paid for by the general fund. (We need to discuss this at the next meeting) If you have any contact information for them please submit names and phone numbers to mpaxton@cox.net. (I have numbers for Mosier, Stapp, White, Mrs. Hickman and Erickson). Also, I've talked with Jan and we discussed the possibilities of available classmates meeting at WHHS for the homecoming football game and maybe having a reunion meeting the next day for those that want to attend. None of this is definite, but let us know if this sounds good to you!

Clearly, my portrayal of the rabbit character made an impression. Perhaps I missed my calling...move over Matt!
