Karen - I have been sitting here waiting for you for sooo long - biting my nails down to nubs - afraid that we had gone too far this time. I was getting ready to come searching for you in cyberspace to apologize..... Just kidding - I happened by at just the right time. Glad that our juvenile ramblings didn't too terribly offend you. I might try to post that pic on my profile if I can get it into my scanner(don't want to have to cut up my yearbook).

Mike - Sounds like a really good idea for those who can. Do you have the WHHS football schedule? Knowing the date of homecoming would be better sooner than last minute, especially for those of us who live out of town. (hint, hint)

Was driving home the other night and, for no apparent reason, was thinking randomly about Janet Bennett. The next morning, after an absence of 28 years, she called me. Spooky, huh? Thanks, Janet, for turning me on to the Class of `78 site.

Yep, I was a gopher in that Noah`s Ark thing(are you sure this is how Pacino started..?)--and I can`t believe you remember The Mortician, Lance! I`d forgotten all about it. Still can`t recall the details, but I remember we had a blast doing it!

And I remember "Bunny Cheeks"--I always thought Marshall really knew how to talk to the girls(!) He is in fact being played by Richard Gere opposite Julia Roberts in my new screenplay of Karen Wilson`s life called "Pwetty Woman"...

In a place called Tatopani in Nepal earlier this year I met a burly, gentle bear of an American. He was friendly and interesting to talk to. I kept thinking he reminded me of someone. It bugged me for weeks afterward until I finally realized he reminded me of Jim Davidson. I thought how surprised Jim would be to know that all these years later I was thinking of him. And now so many of us are. Any details?

Karen Wilson (Loyd)

Hey Matt, good to hear from you! Seems several of us have Janet to thank for passing along this site. How long have you been back from Japan? Do you have anything in the works we all might see you in soon?

Dave, you're killing me! I had forgotten that picture, and now I remember why! Surely, surely there was a better production during our school years than the Noah's Ark skit... like, say, "Bye Bye Birdie"? I do remember some fine singing and dancing in that, don't I?

09/09/08 11:03 PM #37

David Askins

Matt - Kind of an evil looking gopher, weren't you?

Karen - OK - So now you're trying to embarrass me? And please don't call me Shirley(surely)! I still actually remember one of those songs from that play(Bye, Bye Birdie)- "Ed Sullivan". Sing it to my kids once in a while. But that was the year before ya'll's marvelous production, so let's give credit where credit is due - Thank you, Noah's ark family!

I posted some pics from the 20 yr reunion on my profile if anyone wants to take a peak! I have a few more I just need to get them scanned in!! ;o)

Marshall Helsel

Gee, Dave, thanks for posting that skit picture...I had almost forgotten the trauma of silver front teeth, so thanks for that! (just kidding)

Karen, what are you talking about, you made a darn cute wabbit...a cwedit to wabbits wound da werld!

Matt, we are posting that photo on the web when you win your Oscar. "Matt Lagan- gopher it!" (OK...bad pun.)

And I dont care what any of you say, Pat Criner was smokin hot in 1976...the object of many Jr. High crushes!

09/10/08 08:36 PM #40

David Askins

Pam - Thanks for the pics! Wish I had been there. Definitely be there this time.

Marshall - Didn't notice those teeth ..... until you mentioned them.LOL Do you still take out the trash? or do you make Melissa do it?

09/11/08 12:35 PM #41

Jan McGee (Parks)

I wouldn't even begin to guess who that little blond might have been that Marshall was talking about in his profile update, but I am certain that Marshall was NOT that innocent in the activities. I think I heard someone say that Marshall pretended to be sick as well that night! I think I may have been at that concert and remember it being a great show, fight and all!! Marshall, I can't believe you would have skipped out on a speech for DECA. Shame on you!!! :)

09/11/08 07:02 PM #42

Marshall Helsel

Darn it, Jan, you said you'd never tell! (ha-ha) OK, well, since the cat's out of the bag...do you remember who that infamous classmate was who got kicked out of the Beach Boys concert for fighting? Humm??

PS: Sorry about blaming you for the whole thing but we BOTH know it was all your idea...(hee-hee)

Hey David (and anyone else on the Texas gulf coast)- be careful down there in Houston. "Ike"'s a knockin at the door!

09/11/08 07:52 PM #44

David Askins

Marshall - I've been here 20 years and haven't witnessed a hurricane yet - only tropical storms. I gotta see how a hurricane compares to a tornado(though we could get those, too). To use an old political phrase - "I like Ike!" I'll let you know how the ride goes when we get done.

09/12/08 09:35 PM #45

Jan McGee (Parks)

Marshall I don't remember who was tossed from the concert and I will admit to having the tickets but from there the blame is all on you! LOL

David-How far are you from the coast? Please stay safe! We're all worried about you!

09/13/08 01:52 AM #46

Marshall Helsel

Hey, David, let us know you are OK as soon as life gets back to normal round those parts. As I write this I'm staring at that wicked monster on radar bearing down on Houston. Wow...hope it's not as bad as it looks.

09/16/08 07:50 AM #47

David Askins

Hey Marshall - Well, I didn't blow away, but my power and internet access did. Ike was only moderately mean, but he was HUGE! Life isn't quite back to normal - only about 2-1/2 million people lost their power. But, hey, they already have 1/2 million back up and running(of course they're taking care of the easy ones first to make a dent in it). They say it could be 2-4 wks. to get the bulk of us taken care of. They say "Life's a beach" and sometimes it's kinda like Galveston Beach.

It was fun to see everyone and looking forward to the next one. Clearly you all have many more stories to tell then I do. I was the engaged then married one!! I had to be responsible!! (except for teepeeing with Robbie!!)

Hi everyone. I really enjoyed reading the banter above. I hope all of you are well. Swapped a few emails, so far, but would love to catch up with some of you.

Dollina Overton (Wear)

Clearly everyone has plenty of stories to tell! I am however short on stories but glad to hear how well everyone is doing and looking forward to seeing everyone!

David, Glad to hear you survived the storm without much damage!

Matt, would love to see a movie you are in, let us know what they are so we can see you!

Marshall, quit teasing us and tell us who got kicked out of the Beach Boy concert!

09/19/08 06:44 PM #51

Denise Powell (Daniells)

Dollina, I remeber Jr. throwing a rooster on me at your house over off of Meridian, and I had never heard of corn beef hash till you fixed it for me!!

I remeber Scott Stewart, Billy Bledsoe and Wally Brown picking on me at the bus stop every morning, till I finally got to the point I would hide till the bus got there and then run to get on it before they could get me.

I remember Lance Forbes teasing me. I rember Melody Clifton and girl scouts....

And then High School happened and I dont remember nothing again till , well I still really dont remember much. haha.

09/22/08 09:07 AM #52

Dollina Overton (Wear)

Well Denise don't worry, Jr. picked on everyone with his animals!

I remember pulling the purse! Warren Austin, Brett Cunningham, Sherry Smith and several others. That was a lot of fun!

Most of my memories consisted of being the designated driver to parties for people, they all know who they are, I will omit the names just in case they don't want to be recoginzed.

I think I recognize one other person in the baseball picture, far left back row, Andy Mullican, Class of 79.

Twila Sossamon (Bow)

Hi everyone!

I've been reading all of these entries and I had seen the picture of Karen being the rabbit, but I don't remember the play. I have a Noah's Ark collection (at least 50 pieces) and I will never think of it the same way anymore after knowing Marshall was Noah. It's actually a little frightening.

David - I'm glad you survived Ike. Were your kids lucky enough to not get any damage from it?

Matt - I had no idea you were an actor. I agree - we need to know what you've been in so we can all watch you.

I really like this website for the reunion. I've really enjoyed checking out everyone's profile, and I can't wait till the reunion.

If I remember that skit was called "Mutiny on the Ark" and was written buy and performed by the goup. We were all so brilliant, and what acting! Oh and nice hair Matt.

Marshall, I don't know of any freshman that had Cryner that didn't have a crush on her.

I also remember Mr. Lehman not able to demonstrate a single experiment in chemistry or physics successfully without 3 or 4 do-overs.

David remember getting a rather large chunk of sodium metal for your experiment and blowing up the dish all over the back of the class room? And then us trying (unsuccessfully, fortunately) to smuggle a huge piece out of the classroom. Who knows what we would have blown up had we been successfull, probably a toliet or some plumbing at the least.

Marshall Helsel

Gee thanks, Twila. I'll remember that when the next world flood happens and I have the only boat. :-)

David, good to hear you survived. I've been following the recovery down there. What a mess, but hey- could have been a Cat 5, right?

Jeff, Cryner was the Sara Palin of the teaching profession. (ha)

09/25/08 04:15 PM #56

Pam Schulz (Richmond)

yea Twila you made it over here. I hope that doesnt confuse people!! FOR THE RECORD... I am not the coordinator for the reunion I am mearly trying to help to direct people to this wonderful FREE site with lots of great pictures and stories! ;o) Mike and Jan are the hostess with the mostess!!

David Askins

Jeff - I guess the statute of limitations has run out, so it should be safe to confess now. I just never understood why Mr. Lehman never trusted us.LOL
Am I the odd man out? I don't think I ever had a crush on Criner, but maybe that's because I knew her a little different because of my older sisters. I did like her as a teacher. Do you remember the student teacher we got 2nd semester? He didn't seem to appreciate my use of 1 of the "7 words you can't say on television" in one of our skits. Whatever happened to artistic license? I caught flak from him the rest of the semester. Only semester test I ever had to take.(dramatic pause for all the sympathy)LOL

Dollina - Thanks, about the storm. And you keep working on that Little League picture. You're gonna get them one at a time, even if it takes 'til next June.(ha-ha)

Twila - Weirdest thing was, my daughter, Sarah, was in a mandatory evacuation area near Galveston Bay, so she came to stay with me. But her apts. never lost power. She had air-conditioning when she went home on Sunday. Go figure.

Marshall - I won't be hangin' around for a Cat 5, probably not even a 4. Ike was a high 2, and that was plenty of excitement for me.
