Larry Harpster - Class Of 1949 VIEW PROFILE

April 23, 1931 - August 27, 2014

Harpster, Larry B. Age 83 Larry B. Harpster, of Fremont, NE, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont.  Larry was born April 23, 1931 to Ernest and Ruth (Bryant) Harpster in Omaha, NE. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Tech in 1949.  He attended Morningside College where he played football on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in livestock management in 1953.  Larry married Barbara Jean Maxwell on May 31, 1952 at Omaha.  He served in the US Army from July 16, 1953 until July 8, 1955 during the Korean War.  He served thirteen months in Germany.  He was a member of the Army Rifle Marksmen team.  He was employed by George Hormel Company at Austin, Minnesota in 1955 and moved to Fremont in 1957 where he was a Livestock Buyer until he retired in 1991.  He was a member of the Community of Christ Church of Fremont, V.F.W. Post #854 of Fremont and the National Rifle Association.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean; son, Ron and wife, Diane Harpster of Fremont; daughters, Jan and husband, Glenn Poppe and Joann Dirkschneider and special friend, Matt Kwiatkowski all of Fremont; brother, Ernest and wife, Ruth Harpster of Omaha; sister, Laura Salzbrenner of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. FUNERAL SERVICE will be 10am, Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.  James Cunningham will officiate.  VISITATION will be Friday, 4-8pm with the family receiving friends from 6-8pm at Moser Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
