Died October 7, 2013 in Fremont, NE. Born October 14, 1939 to John and Marie Cernelic, Omaha. Proudly survived by husband Richard; son: Kent (Jean) Mortensen, Arlington, NE; daughter: Pam (Eileen) Riggs, Lincoln; grandchildren: Wayne (Jill) Mortensen, Cleveland, OH, Jennifer (Josh) Eigsti, Omaha, Amanda (David) Nelson, Omaha, Melissa Riggs, Lincoln; five great grandchildren; brother: Robert (Lois) Cernelic, Omaha; sister-in-law: Lorraine Mowinkel, Papillion; many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.
Occupations included Manager of House of Fabrics, Interior Designer for Sherwin Williams, Owner of Uniforms Etc. and lifelong professional Seamstress. She played keyboards in the band Joanie and Kent with her children from 1972 to 1981. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, all arts and crafts and was an avid Husker fan. Aspen Crematorium is in charge of cremation. Family will be greeting friends and family Sunday, October 13 from 2-5pm at the Arlington Community Center (next to City Auditorium) to celebrate Joan's life. Interment at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont at a later date.
