Donald Voorhees - Class Of 1959 VIEW PROFILE

Voorhees, Donald "Don" Age 75 Of Grand Island, formerly of Omaha. Passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Don was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey D. Voorhees; parents, Reginald and Sarah Voorhees; and brother, Reginald. His memory is cherished by his wife, Barbara of Grand Island; sister, Virginia (Ron) Townsend of Grand Island; brother -in-law, David Shoemaker of TX; sisters-in-law, Glenda Walker of TX, Nancy (Charles) Fletcher of TX, and Lisa Herrington of TX; Katie Thurkettle, mother of his grandchildren of Hudsonville, MI; grandchildren, Calvin, Hannah, Felicity and Gabriel Voorhees; and numerous nieces nephews and extended family and friends. Don was born on July 12, 1941 at West Pittston, PA, son of Reginald and Sarah (Hansel) Voorhees. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Omaha, NE. Don was a 1959 graduate of Omaha Tech High School. In 1965, Don was drafted in the U.S. Army, serving until he received his honorable discharge in 1967. On July 14, 1967, Don was united in marriage to Barbara L. Shoemaker in Sanderson, TX. The couple soon relocated to Omaha where Don was employed by Nashua Corp. for over 34 years. Following his retirement Don joined the Heartland Harmonizers. Don enjoyed singing with them until his health wouldn't allow him to. For his health Don started to take daily walks around the neighborhood. He enjoyed meeting all the dogs and his extended neighbors. Don also enjoyed a good crossword puzzle in the morning. Don was loved by everyone he met. CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 11am, at Grace Central Church, 344 North 115th Street, Omaha, NE 68154, with VISITATION an hour prior. Pastors Eric Olson and Todd Bowen will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn- Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Omaha. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is entrusted with arrangements.
