Dr. Kucera, VA Hospital Chief, Dies

Lincoln (AP) - Dr. Lad Kucera, who was to become director of the Lincoln Veterans Hospital Aug. 8, died Monday during a meeting at the hospital.

Death apparently was due to a heart attach, a hospital spokesman said.

Dr. Kucera, who was 58, had been director of the VA hospital at Grand Island since 1964 and served in several capacities with the Veterans Administration hospitals for many years.

A 1939 graduate of the Creighton university School of Medicine, Dr. Kucera was a veteran of World War II and a staff member of St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, the Omaha Veterans Hospital and the Lincoln Veterans Hospital.

He had been director of professional services at the Omaha VA hospital from 1959 to 1961 and served as chief of staff there from 1961 to 1964 before moving to Grand Island.

Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.

A photograph of Dr. Kucera was published with the obituary.
