Jean Ridley (Fielding)

David,

I agree with you, we should not be like this 40 yrs later.  What the heck happen?  We were all one class in 1970.  I sure wish that we could be that way again.  Hopefully we can all get on the same page and know that life is to short not to enjoy every moment that we get.  After all we are all one human race.  Great post and keep up the good work trying to get us all together again.

Jean

Here's your chance to party with the Class of 1969 (1968, and 1971)!!!

The Class of 1969 is inviting the Classes of 1968, 1970 and 1971 to celebrate our 60th Birthday Bash with us on a 3-night Bahama cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas, November 11-14, 2011.   More details will be forthcoming shortly.   Here is your opportunity for "everyone" to come together as one (as David said in his message above)!

We hope you will join us!

Betsy Wharton Crittenden (on behalf of the Class of 1969)

David well said and please know that we as well as the class of 71 are working on bring all our classmates together. There are reasons why people were not notified of both reunions however I don't know exactly why things have been like this for 30 years.. but I am all for leaving the past in the past and moving forward and I believe that is just what we are doing.. members of both reunions are in communication and classmates through our survey... and please everyone check out the survey.. want to do local events with all our classmates of 70 as well as other years.. And everyone wants the next big event to be united.

Also I want to make it clear since there has been talk..that ALL classmates that were registered on our site, classmates.com, facebook (those we could find on facebook) and the MCC alumni site were invited to the reunion that was held at the Bahia Mar. We did reach out via phone and email of those we had information for as well.

I believe that all of this is giong to be resolved and we will become a united class as we were in 1970. I am committed to working to achieve that goal and believe there are many more that will be there to help achieve that goal.  I missed seeing a lot of my friends and sure wish I could have gone with you all to the Embassy to see them..but I was working .. Now that I know you all went part of me says we should have shut down early and all of us go.. I had no idea that you all went over there.. until I read the Herald article.. I am also hoping that photos will be passed on to me to post on our site. Both reunions took a lot of work to put together and all should be a part of this great site of ours through pictures. so if you know where I can get some photos please get them passed on to me..

United We Stand and as Chiefs we have always Stood Tall!

GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gina is absolutely correct about the efforts made to make a unified reunion and that the disconnect is largely because of two factors;    the sheer time and monumental effort needed to organize and make commitments, and the lingering ghost from the past, "this is how it has been since 1990".

Again, Gina is absolutely correct to suggest that there is no reason to revisit the past.  There were no "racial incidents" or anything of a nature that would need addressing and correcting so there is absolutely no reason why we can't all agree to move forward.

The invitation to the Birthday Bash that the Class of '69 has just announced is a great chance for '70 to bring "everyone" together.  If there could be anything better than to be reunited with all of our classmates, it would be getting together with "everyone" that shared the halls of Miami Carol City with us.

Everyone who went to the Embassy Saturday night will tell you that there was a great warmth that was shared.  The desire to make something like this happen is there.  Lets move on to that.  You know the Class of '70 will do it if we can get in touch with everyone.  Thanks again Gina for helping us get closer to that.

David

Gina, I, and others have been so busy communicating to each other via email I forgot about posting to the message forum.  As David & Gina have said the class of 70' enjoyed the times spent in 1970 as well as the time spent at the 2010 reunions.  The bonds of 70' are reuniting and that's wonderful because we were a united class.  I've heard lunching dates and communications are now being made from classmates who realize they live in the same cities and that's great.  I shared with Gina and recently with David that some classmates participated in the NEW MCC's student orientation last Wednesday and Thursday nights and the CLASS of 1970 was recognized at both events and then other alumni that might have been in the audience were invited to stand.  I also shared with them that in honor of the class we will be placing a banner in the gym that will read, "A Time For Us"  Class of 1970

Best wishes to all and I will remember to post to this site.

Hi Paul.. Thanks for posting to the message forum. It is a great way to connect with everyone. If there is anything that you would like sent to the class we can do that as well. I am so glad the orientation went so well. I am sure the kids are excited to be moving into the new school it is really nice. It surely needed a facelift. No matter how you slice or dice it.. no mater what the outside of the school looks like MCC is the best school and we are Chiefs to the end.  I know that the students of today will be just as proud of MCC as we were.

I am so glad to hear that more people are getting together and more are finding the website too which is fantastic. The site is growing. We were an awesome class and always will be. Paul you have to make sure we get a photo of the banner for the site to share with everyone.  I have posted the information about the Brick as well and am talking to the committee about purchasing one.  I think it is an awesome way to keep all the classes at the new MCC and for generations to know we were there.

I am so looking forward to making plans soon for a local event that we can all enjoy together.. the buzz is in the air and there are people willing to step up to make something fun happen.  I know you are very involved with the school so pleae keep us up to date with what is happening so we can post things here on the site to let people know what is going on with our school.

Go Chiefs....

The Class of 1969 is inviting the Classes of 1968, 1970 and 1971 to join them.

The Class of 69 has just posted more of the details for the 11/11/11 cruise that Betsy spoke about.  Cabin availability and pricing are now set and the link to the cruise line for vitual tours is http://rscavron.cruiseone.com/travel/cruise_articles/CMSStandardPage.html?edOid=1611987507

While this is more than a year away, it is very well timed to allow everyone to think about what a great opportunity this is to see ALL of our classmates.  We will need all of this time to get the word out to people that we have not found yet.  You can help by telling everyone that you talk to.

Visit the 69 site at http://www.carolcitysenior69.com/ and see more.  You will also see a lot of familiar faces and read comments from people you used to talk to daily.

WARNING:  This experience may lead to a desire to laugh with old friends.  If this feeling persists, forget your doctor and sign up for the cruise.

In order to reserve the cabin of your choice at the best available rate, a deposit of $100.00 must be made no later than October 15, 2010 (deposits are fully refundable until 75 days from sailing. No penalties will be charged for cancellation until 75 days from sailing. Full payment is not due for your cruise until September 1, 2011). So there you have it -- you have no excuse to not go ahead and reserve now. If a situation arises that makes it impossible for you to cruise with us, and you cancel before September 1, 2011, you get a full refund of your deposit.

So PLEASE, PLEASE, make your reservations NOW to ensure you are included!

Hey Gang,

Check the EVENTS page for the information on the Village Gate Dance in June.  Even though it is a single night event, it will really be a Mini-Reunion.  This event is shaping up nicely thanks to a lot of hard work and Everyone Involved is committed to having ALL 1970 CLASSMATES contacted and invited.

You will see a lot more coming soon as the final details are finished.  The Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale is hosting this event for us in June and then the Reunion for 1971 in July.  Your class committee has been able to get great deals with them so check it out.  But even more importantly than meeting in a very nice location, the Class of 1970 will dance and party together again.

  The entire class.

AMEN

Hey David.. The dance is going to be awesome. The Class of 70 committee is hard a work planing it.  Ft. Lauderdale is going to be rockin with MCC classmates all summer long with the reunions going on and  our dance.

Go Chiefs!!!

Hey Class,

Gina has added a picture of the school on the log in page.  Click on it and the MCC school events comes up.  Then click on the pictures in there and you will get a slide show of activity pictures.  The new Basketball uniforms look great.

That's a neat feature Gina.  I hadn't thought about the Prom in a long time but I noticed the Class of 2011 is having theirs in May.  That spot will be interesting to watch.

Gina,

The Village Gate Dance was a big success as you posted.  Even though it was a single night, it was a chance to see people we had not seen in 30 or 40 years.  Even though it wasn't as many people as we have every 10 years, it was easier to spend more time with individuals.  And this event was of special significance for the Class as a whole.  Many people who had spent a lot of time together in school got to reflect on that significance.

After seeing the hospitality and friendship Saturday night, it would be a suprise if there weren't more events planned for the future.

A Big WELL DONE for the Committee.

David

David I thought the Village Gate Dance was fantastic. I have not danced that much in a very long time. I was so glad you and Chris were able to make it down and our other out of towners that cam in.. Everyone seemed to have a good time and it was so nice to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. I think some of us dance a little better than we did back then .. LOL..  I would love to see us do something like this every few months.

And lets not forget what a great job the committee did with the Spring Time For Seniors event. I understand that the Seniors had a great time and so did the volunteers.. The class of 70 rocks.

I hope more of our locals will come out to a meeting and become a part of upcoming events and join in on being a part of MCC Class of 70 again.

To all forgive me for not posting a few months ago but it has been extrememly hectic for me.

David, Chris, & Gina thanks so much for not only helping to make the Village Gate a success but you are also correct in stating the success of the health fair we put on for the Senior Citizens (Springttime for Seniors) at the NEW MCC.  It was such a heartwarming experience to know that Chris's parents were bringing her from the airpor to the school.  Not only was that great but they stayed and joined in with the festivities.

It was great to once again be THE CLASS OF 70 and that feeling and tradition will continue on.  We have been asked to return to the Embassy Suites in 2012 (we'll need a larger room) in addition MCC and the Senior Citizens asked us to do the health fair again next year.  Jessie Trice Community Health Center, Inc. has committed to co-sponsor with our class again next year.

On a positive note the involvment of myself and other 1970 class members assisted MCC in getting a high accrediation rating from the State of Florida Accreditation Committee.

I was advised recently that there is now a NEW adminstrative team at MCC.  I have not had the opportunity to meet with them yet but have been advises that the new Principal wants to meet with me.  I'll keep you posted.

On a sad note we loss another Chief last Friday, Daniel Stevenson.  He went to Jr. High at North Dade.

Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.  The Class of 70' is back and united.

 Class of 70

A big thank you to the Village Gate committee for organizing another event and another valuable chance to see our friends.  Last years event was a very nice night and a reunion of some classmates who had not met together in many years.

Another thank you is due to Bruce for keeping the memorial postings of our lost friends so that we can keep them in our thoughts and prayers.  This is a grim reminder of the value of attending events like the Village Gate and the chance to spend a little time with each other now.

Will we be having a 45th reunion in 2015?  I have no doubt that with the level of energy from the dedicated people who keep this class alive, we will have a wonderful event, but do you really want to wait 3 years?  Taking a little time out of our busy schedules can be rewarding, especially if you live in the area.

We hope to see a lot of you there,

           David

Does anybody have any films of the half-time shows or parades for 69,70, or 71 that could be made into DVD's or post on U-Tube?        Debbie

Here is a recent article from the Sarastoa Herald-Tribune about class of '70 graduate Alice McCloud. She has made quite an impact in Sarasota County.
