I think it was Coach Tom Spring who looked over our sports program and saw we were heavily weighted in Football participation.  I remember him telling the football team, "If you want to play football next year, you have to participate in one other sport."  (It must have been two other sports, why else would I go out for basketball AND track.)

Anyway Chris Musemeche and I were in the same boat, we really only wanted to play football.  Both of us signed up for basketball.  Chris had some abilities, I was floundering from the 1st minute.

I am not sure how Chris and I were put in the game, maybe coach was punishing all the starters for some reason.  There was a missed shot and Chris was able to get his hands on the ball; so did one of our opponents.  A tug and tussle ensued which ended with Chris literally pulling the ball away and taking a few steps as if to run away.

It looked like the right thing to do to me!

What I remember from basketball was practicing outside in the cold on the cement court until the gym was built and that we never won.  I distinctly remember Gilbert Mazzola telling one official that his "ass leaked" when he fouled out.  I also remember a major brawl on the court with Kelly one year.  I think it started when Nelson tackled one of his cousins.  But the absolute funniest story was the night Steve Whitley forgot his jock and decided he wasn't going to wear anything under his shorts.  Well everybody remembers how short those things were and the game started and Steve is running down the court and the next thing you hear is Coach Spring yelling "time out, timeout!!!".  Seems Steve was little overexposed and Coach was screaming at him to get in the locker room and put something on.  The good old days.

I think that was the same game that the refs call both Catholic Teams to the center court to tell us we HAD to cut out the cussing OR he was going to start calling personal fouls.

Thanks...I needed a good laugh.  I remember one weekend the volleyball team had a tournament in Houston.  We stated at the Catholic College and ended up at Princess Drive-in off 45 by U of H.  We ordered hamburgers and then realized it was Friday and waited to eat out cold burgers after midnight...
