Married high school sweetheart in June 1970, starting our family right away, first a boy and 19 months later our girl. We had our perfect little family! They attended St. Mary's school where I volunteered in every aspect imaginable through the years. At the same time, I became active with church activities including Parish Council, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Eucharistic Ministers, and Catholic Women Home Tour for 15 years, the last 10 as chairman. During the time while the kids were busy with school functions, I worked my way through all sorts of hobbies. I started sewing at an early age, even before having Mrs. Cameron in Home Economics. I made all my clothes and most of the kids. Once they completed 8th grade, they moved on to West Orange Stark High School. I continued to volunteer at St. Mary's but started lending my services to the public system also. by the time Aimee was ready to graduate, I had started volunteering within the Community with The Service League of Orange, serving as Follies chairman. In 1996, our life changed drastically when David was hired as a Representative with the United Paperworker's International Union. We moved to Baton Rouge, LA, North Richland Hills, TX then Ruston, LA.

Once in Ruston, I met a group a ladies at my church who quilt together every Thursday. I knew how to quilt having spent days with my Mom attending a group quilting Bee with her. But I had never actually made a quilt. That same year we moved to Ruston, 1999, our granddaughter Alexandra was born. I made a hand smocked french lace baptismal dress and bonnet for her as well as a quilt for her crib. I was hooked and couldn't wait to make a full fledged quilt. That summer, I made a 1930's 9-patch quilt using scraps from all my years of garment sewing. It is so fun to look at the quilt and reminisce about familiar fabrics, what was made from them and who it was for. I knew I had found my true passion.

I travel some with David on business which enables me to shop at quilt stores in other places. Other than family, my life revolves around my quilting. I will never live long enough to make every quilt project I want........but I will try.

We love life here in Ruston, a beautiful little college town with rolling hills and beautiful trees. Our church is located on the Louisiana Tech campus. We have a very active college student program. One of my favorite ministries is the $ Lunch Program. Every Wednesday that Tech is in session, we prepare a full lunch at our church. Tech student get to eat for $1. These kids are so appreciative; it is great seeing them enjoy their lunch and socializing with each other.

We are very comfortable here in Ruston and never see ourselves anywhere else.

School Story:

One of my favorite teacher at St. Mary's was Sr. Thaddeus. In fact, we corresponded for several years after I graduated. She would make her own little note cards using tatted flowers glued on the front and draw the stem and leaves.

It must have been freshman year, I had her for homeroom. Our big discussion was always about being able to pull the wool over her eyes during class. Well, one morning during the Christmas season, I grabbed two fairly small to medium shiny red balls from the Christmas tree in the front of the class and looped them through my small loop earrings. I sat fairly close to the front of the room. She came in, called roll and made announcements never noticing or even mentioning the flamboyant jewelry I wore. lol As I left the classroom heading to my next class, I removed the decorations and returned them to their place on the tree.
