KAY KAHLER (ABBEY)

Kay Kahler Abbey, 78, of Jamestown, New York, passed away at Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Nursing facility on Monday, October 24, 2022.

She was born to Lawrence and Helen (Becker) Kahler on September 27, 1944. In 1962, she graduated from Clay High School, Oregon, Ohio, where she had been an active member of the marching band and acapella choir.

After graduation, she married Richard C. Abbey of New York. Kay was a nutritionist and worked long hours as a staff nutritionist or cook in many nursing homes over the span of her career. Between work and raising her children, she always found time for genealogy. For over 50 years, she did extensive family research and was a past member of the DAR as well as past president of the Chautauqua County Cemetery Association; and past secretary of Red Bird Cemetery. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son Paul, two sisters Lizzie and Alice, and a brother, Lawerence Jr. 

Surviving are her daughter Deborah of Jamestown, NY; grandson Matthew (Sara) Herrera of North East, PA.;  brother Clarence of Parma OH; niece Dawn (Leonard) Hamilton of Jamestown, NY; brother-in-law Brian (Debbie) Abbey of Brighton MI; sister-in-law Donna Mae Abbey of Haven, UT; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and many cousins and their families who loved her dearly.

After the death of her husband in 2018, she moved to Heritage Park where she served on the Resident Advisory Council of Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Nursing facility and participated in numerous activities and social gatherings. She will be missed by everybody at Heritage Park; (residents, and staff alike) and especially her close friend and roommate.

Internment was at Red Bird Cemetery, Chautauqua County, New York.
