Sandy Schwarz Freeman

Wow...that was so long ago. I graduated from Hanover College in 1974 with a BA in Elementary Education. Met my husband, Dick Freeman, at Hanover, and married in 1974. We moved to Valparaiso, Indiana, where Dick was from, after I 👩‍🎓. I taught 2nd grade at Kouts Elementary School for 3 years. Along the way, I earned my Masters in Education from Purdue University. In November of 1978, our first child, Jim was born, followed by Jill in 1980. When Jill was in kindergarten, I went back into teaching 1,2 and 3rd grades at Union Township Schools. In 2013, we both retired and moved to Madison, Indiana. Madison is 10 minutes from Hanover College, and one of the most beautiful river towns along the Ohio River. it is also an hour away from both of our children. Along with keeping up with our two guest houses, I belong to The DL chapter of PEO ( Philanthropic Educational Organization) where I am the Correspondent Secretary. I also volunteer as a member of Valley Hills Garden Club.
Dick and I have four grandchildren. Caroline 11 and Cole 9 (Jill’s) and Alexandria 6 and James 4 (Jim’s) and two Golden Retrievers, Toby and Charlie. I love spending time in our perennial gardens at home and at our guest houses. And i cherish all of the friendships that we have made in Madison.

My school story at Shawnee Mission South is pretty darn short. My twin sister and I moved to Leawood, Kansas from Kirkwood, Missouri, during the summer of our sophomore year. SMS was a huge and overwhelming change for both of us. Most of the friends that we made were other new kids. Unfortunately, I have lost contact with my SMS friends, and would love to hear from them .
