Okay I give up anybody know what or how to explain a wrap or a doobie. I asked all these northerners and they just looked at me with stunned silence. Come on somebody has to know what in the world it is and how to explain it.

While some of you chose to stay in Oxford some like myself always felt the stork got lost and left us in the wrong state.
I've enjoyed traveling and finally settled down in CT. I still refer to my upbringing and the way things were different then. Yet I feel I'm a blended citizen and not afraid of differences and other cultures, provided they respect my own thinking.

I was in Oxford a few weeks ago for the first time in 8 years and it had changed a lot. And I was able to still get a Sunrise biscuit.Talk about yummy and memories. But I have to tell ya, For 4 days straight I couldn't find a decent cup of coffee, all swill I tell ya. Where can we find one? Not Starbucks and not McDonald's, just decent regular coffee.

I just had a flashback of 4th grade at CG Credle. Chasing Kathy Warren after school and her mom stopping and asking me what I thought I was doing. I had no answer. Man that came back clear as a bell. I thought I had drank that one away. That led to the report me and Chance Wilkerson gave on earthworms with the discovery that they had breathing skin. Which then left me with the memory of sitting on the cement steps outside the fence of school waiting for my dad to come pick me up from work. Well, missing dad now so tonight I drink to see if I can forget chasing Kathy and earthworms so it doesn't lead back to missing my dad.

I have to agree with Brian there was no coffee to be found. Plenty of waiste line increasing food though. The 220 is some of the best seafood still. My daughter loves it. Get there early though or you will be waiting. Granville barber shop hasn't changed. Oh and Henderson is a lot closer now. I don't know why.

There's a shop on the corner downtown...where Williams Drug Co. used to be years ago - it's got good coffee...well...good for Oxford coffee i suppose.

Need a few things. Cash bar means cash right, how much a drink are we talking. I am used to the 8 dollar drinks in DC so any insight. Will there be signs leading old guys with bad memory like myself to the actual party at Thorndale. I don't think I have ever been to the clubhouse. Is there an after party? Sorry if I am rambling I am getting excited to see a bunch of strangers that I knew 20 years ago.

So, I got interested in reading all the back and forth comments about Oxford life. I find that I "have the best of both worlds"! A little Hannah Montana for those of you w/ kids. I love the convenience of living in Raleigh and I love our life in Raleigh. I know that had Mike remained in Granville County w/ one of the local law enforcement agencies the opportunities that have been afforded probably would not have existed for him. Being assigned to the FBI's Violent Fugitivie Task Force for 5 years was an absolute blast for both of us. He got to work everything from cases profiled on America's Most Wanted to terrorist leads/cases right after 9/11 that the President was being "briefed on" and we met fabulous, great people. I also know that if I had come straight back to Oxford the liklihood of working on the spinal cord injury team at such a respected rehab like WakeMed would have been small and working with physicians and therapists that instilled in me such knowledge and specialty skills would probably have not been possible. WITH ALL THAT SAID....these are not the experiences that build the character of our children. Sure running in the circles of a variety of different people is grand, but the experiences that will make my children the fine adults they will become are strongly tied to Oxford/Berea. My children have had the opportunity since the day they were born to spend practically every weekend or a portion of every weekend on my parents horse farm where my Dad and Mom have ensured that they have been able to learn so many wonderful things about country life and farm life. I thought for sure my Dad would be here until age 90 and for many years to come my boys would spend their summers as his ranch hands. Guess they can be ranch hands for my Mom. They are also able to participate in so many fantastic things that are part of life in a small, close community. SO GUYS...I DO HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

Back to coffee - Amy mentioned a shop where Williams Drug Store used to be, it is called "Off the Wall Cafe" on the corner of Hillsboro and College St. Along with coffee, you can also get good lattes and cappuccinos there. They serve a light lunch with sandwiches and wraps, good atmosphere and some gift buying. And, for those of you wondering, no this is not Gary commenting on lattes, cappuccinos and atmosphere(LOL)it is Tracy('87).

Thank God. I was about to question why Gary would be commenting on such non masculine stuff. I had to put down my Mocha Latte to comment

Tracy here again - Bill, yes cash. Class of '87 had their reunion there last year and debit/credit cards were not accepted. Drinks will not run you $8, probably around $4 -$5 if memory serves me correctly. Thorndale is not that big so no signs needed, when you enter you will be at the party.

Why thank you Tracy. Growing up the ignorant farm boy I only saw the country club from the street. They didn't allow tobacco chewing and overalls on the course. Now that should be a funny mental image.

Bill, I do believe you are going to be the first person Gary and I look up so we can start the night off with some good laughs.

Tracy, Jerry and I will be right there with you. Bill, I have laughed myself to tears at your comments! :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday night!!

Well, as you can imagine these are sober comments that I have been typing at work. I plan on having a little extra liquid courage and I think I am even funnier then. I have drained my brain of all the negative from Oxford. Some of it was harder that it needed to be but I am trying to remember all of the positive so that I can have a blast with all of the people whose name I hope to remember and a few friendships that I would like to extend beyond this weekend.

Bill, hopefully, you'll make new good memories this weekend that will help ease away the bad ones.

Yay for liquid courage! Aren't we all much funnier with that?! :)

I do have a 20 dollar bill for anyone who reprises the Will Farrel scene from Old Skool. Don't force me to do it all by myself.

10/02/08 03:02 PM #108

Bill Bush

Okay serious note. I see that some of you are married to policeman/troopers/officers and whatnot. I want a Limo for me and the wife for the night. Any ideas numbers or help? I am staying in Henderson if that helps.

Bill - are you talking about when Will Ferrell was running naked through town? Or when the old cooter dropped dead when the girls were wrestling?

10/02/08 03:36 PM #110

Tracy Hobgood (Zimmerman)

Bill - here is the Limo info: Elite Limousine 828-287-7979 and Limousine and Shuttle Service 252-438-7737. Both are in Henderson. Hope this helps.

10/02/08 03:58 PM #111

Tracy the old cooter is not Will Farrell I am talking about the streaking. But if we have to have girls jello wrasslin then so be it. I will make it 20 dollars in ones.

Thanks for the limo info
