Dwight Mackie Obituary from Caballero-Ryder Funeral Home
A few days ago, our dear old Dad Dwight transitioned on to the next life, following very closely behind his brother Gary, who passed away on April 30th. He was a good man, doting father and grandfather, and loving husband to our mother Sherry for 49 years. Dad could be the kindest, most generous guy you ever met or unapologetically ornery as a bull! He gave selflessly to his friends and family, and to his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma. He was a very proud Sooner and followed OU sports closely. The biggest sports nut we know, he could be observed regularly yelling at the TV, either in anger or in joy, as if he was
coaching the team.
Dad was an avid golfer, playing until he could no longer swing. In his earlier years he was a champion bowler and the first person in the Texas Panhandle to bowl a 300. His occupation was geophysicist sometime after college and working as part of a field crew laying pipe. He quickly rose to VP at Golden Geophysical in Golden Colorado, and then Fairfield here in Texas. He spent much time overseas in South Vietnam, helping to set up company operations there.
He was full of life, loved the adventure of working and traveling abroad, and always had tales to tell (some true and others tall!).
This man loved making others laugh by being outright goofy and charmingly crude. His passing has been unbearably painful. He was loved by so many - family, friends, and colleagues all over the world that called him a dear friend. We miss you Dad and will love you always and forever!
Dwight is survived by his wife Sherry, 3 children: Brandy, Bret, and Julie - brother: Richard, and one grandson: Casen.
