Janis was a quiet sweet girl and loyal friend during our school days.  She was my best friend and I'm sad her life was so short and we never got to get together again once we graduated.  I heard she became a bank officer in Arizona and later moved to somewhere like the Carolinas.  I have fond memories of her and the times we shared as kids.

Janis was my girlfriend in the third grade at Horace Mann.  I remember saving my lunch money before Christmas to buy her an imitation pearl necklace.  I bought it at Woolworth and put it in a box and wrapped  it in red issue  paper. The day we were dismissed for for the Christmas holidays, I ran her down outside of class and shoved my gift to her and ran away feeling embarrassed.

At ourr 20th reueniion, we had a picnic out at Celanese Saturday afternoon  before the evening ceremonies.  Janis was there along with her daughter and came up to me to introoduce her daughter.  I said hello and we spoke for awhile.  Janis finally asked, "Gary, do you notice what she is wearing around her neck"?  Yes, it was the necklace I had give Janis in the third grade.   I  can't tell you how moved I was.  That was the last time I had any contact with Janis.  She will always have a special place in my heart.  She was such a good person and we were fortunate to have her as a friend and classmate.
