Steven (Steve) Spidell

7
Joseph Steven Spidell
September 7, 1948 – February 14, 2023
Born to Bill and Carolyn Spidell, Steve had one sibling, James. They all pre-deceased him. Steve
was a studious child and young man, presaging his ability to excel in academic endeavors. He held de-
grees from University of Texas Austin, (B.A.,) Austin Presbyterian Seminary, (M.Div. and D. Min.) and
Wesley Theological Seminary, (D, Min.)
He served various churches as pastor, spent many years as a pastoral counselor, but found his
highest calling in hospital chaplaincy. He ministered in multiple Houston hospitals as the Executive Di-
rector of P.O.P., Presbyterian Outreach to Patients. At retirement, he was the Director of Spiritual Care
for Methodist Hospital—San Jacinto. His ability as a teacher was unparalleled.
He married late in life and made Cheryl Smith and her two daughters, Colly and Cayce, his new
family. One son, Robin, was born to Steve and Cheryl. Providing much enjoyment to him were the four
grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, Addison and Kendall.
Of primary importance to Steve was his faith in the Triune God and the upholding of solid theolo-
gy in the Church. In the midst of loss, we rest assured that through the grace of God, he now feasts at
that heavenly banquet in perfect peace.
For those wanting to honor his life and witness through a memorial gift, kindly give to the Make-
A-Wish Foundation, 12625 Southwest Freeway, Stafford, TX 77477.
