Richard Morgan Obituary

Richard W. Morgan "I'd be the moon when the sun's gone down. To let you know I'm still around. That's how deep my love is. That's how deep my love is." An honest, good man passed on Friday, January 22, 2010. Richard W. Morgan, born to Muriel T. Morgan and Jacob W. Morgan on October 6, 1946 in Danville, Illinois, died in the arms of his loving family after a seven month marathon with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his dear friend of 42 years, his wife, Molly McKasson Morgan, and their precious children, Lily Morgan Owen (Wade), and Clay Gabriel Morgan; also by his cousins Pam and Linda, his wife's family and so many good friends who were immeasurable comfort these past months. He leaves behind him a legacy of intellectual curiosity, humor, compassion and soul that far exceed the chronicle of his life. He received a B.A. in English from Northwestern University in 1968. For over 30 years he tech-directed and helped to build the Arizona Opera, one set at a time. As a member of I.A.T.S.E., Local #485, he worked on crews that mounted hundreds of local productions. During this time and beyond, he built sets for dozens of movies, T.V. programs (such as Young Riders), and commercials filming in Arizona and around the country. He was a Renaissance man: as curious about carpentry, knot-tying and wabi-sabi, as he was about Coltrane's jazz, Rumi's poetry, and making a perfect collage. He was a proud father and husband, in love with his family and the wilderness they explored together. He agreed with the D.L. that kindness was the best religion and meditation the most honest practice. He leaves behind a shop of unfinished creations, but he lived an examined life while he was here—a seeker, a keeper and a lover forever. For those who wish to honor his life, a gift to 91.3 KXCI—his musical lifeline—or to The Friends of Madera Canyon would be deeply appreciated. A Memorial Service is planned for early March.
